Wife's out of town and I had to do an exchange at the mall so I ducked in during the IMAX showing not really knowing much about this flick. What a ride! Good acting, great f/x, good script. Don't expect Battle: LA, ID4, or District 9. It's more like the Goonies meets...
Nevermind. Too scary for little kids plus violence, some blood, and language. Somewhat predictable. Nevertheless, I was very entertained. Highly recommended.
***Stay for the credits***
On another note, the Harry Potter finale trailer looked awesome but I wasn't really looking forward to Transformers until I saw the trailer. Can't wait!

Yeah, I saw Super 8 today and loved it... but I do think they kinda' marketed it wrong. Most of the people I know who were disappointed by it basically thought it was going to be another Cloverfield, which it totally isn't. To me, it was like a total love letter to The Goonies and E.T. The best thing about it though was the acting of the kids. Some of the best child actors I've seen, and Elle Fanning was amazing!Equipment list:

You know shes barely 13? Crazy stuff, makes me feel that much older haha but yea it was a sweet movie, I kept my eye open in the background for little hints and whatnot, because it is JJ Abrams lol
And yes the monster does look very similar to the Cloverfield monster lol albeit different in its own right.Home Theater Setup- Receiver - Onkyo TX-RZ1100

Saw this last night and was absolutely amazed. Describing it as a love letter to the Spielberg movies of the '80's is spot-on. And the child actors were the best I've ever seen in a movie.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

It's getting decent reviews elsewhere too.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'll wait for the Blu one this one, looks too much like the Spielberg stuff we've seen before.If...

Haven't seen it...but Cloverfield was, IMO, pretty lame. An attempt at a Blair Witch Project Sci-fi film (as if BWP wasn't 'bad' enough....come on, we've been doing stuff like that since we got our first Super 8 camera in High School....now they call it 'youtube'; still a lot of amateur auteurs out there--far too MANY!)
Every High School and College student who ever got a camera has made at least a few films that would make most of us wince, and many of them turn their own heads away from their cutting edge youth a few years later!
Speaking of no script and hand held cameras...anyone remember Norman Mailer's attempts at Cinema Verite?
Very, very 'sad'!

Umm.... as already stated, it's nothing like Cloverfield. In fact, it's pretty much the exact opposite in the sense that it's an homage to the '80's blockbuster/sci-fi genre. It does an excellent job of building suspense and creating atmosphere. Modern day blockbusters are more about beating you over the head with rapid cut scenes and Baysplosions.
RonP - What kind of reasoning is that?? Did you see Transformers 2? I'm pretty sure that flaming pile of donkey excrement looked just like the first one. You say everyone should turn off their brain and enjoy some mindless popcorn flicks. Well... here's one that actually is very well made, has excellent acting and has explosions.I never had it like this where I grew up. I got that..but I couldn't resist. Somethings just strike a nerve.
I've read the reviews of Super 8 and it looks like it might be fine.

I've read the reviews and this film is getting a solid 8 out of 10 score. I saw Cloverfield on dvd and imho was disappointed after hearing all the hype, (maybe it's better on bluray). i would have given cloverfield 3 out of 10. Might have to give Super 8 a try, will be interesting to see how many more millions it brings in the next couple of weeks.

People need to stop with the cloverfirld comparisons, they're not the same at all.
This movie is closer to goonies than it is to cloverfield.
Im gonna go see it again this weekend, such a great movie. -
You're going to see Super 8 again ? That's a sure sign of an awesome ,fun movie!

You do have to wonder, considering how similar the creature is in Super 8, if it kind of acts as a prequel to Cloverfield. I mean... we know from the final scene of Cloverfield that something crashed in the ocean before the creature appeared. Just sayin'!
Regardless, Cloverfield was directed by Matt Reeves, not J.J. Abrams, so despite the Abrams story touches, they are two totally different styles of movies.Equipment list:

I don't think the back-story in each film allow them to be tied together but regardless it's nothing like Cloverfield. -

Well Super 8 took place in the late 70's early 80's and I believe Cloverfield was in todays period if I remember correctly. Also the Cloverfield monster was huge & the one in super 8 was nowhere near the same size. I doubt the movies are supposed to have any relation, but who knows. -

I caught it this afternoon. I thought it was pretty good and a very fun movie to watch. I would give it an 8/10.

I live in Dayton, Ohio and there was a time where there was a general "freak out" about WPAFB and aliens. Some more than others of course, but there has always been a weird stigma around here bout UFOs.

Watched this again last night. LOVE IT. I don't know that I'd say the sound mix is as good as Transformers like Keiko said, but it is pretty solid.Equipment list:
