Well, to my embarrasment I have a small tear in the surround of one of my mid drivers. I found this out when a prospective buyer pointed it out to me yesterday. I think he thought I was trying to put something over on him, which I most definatley was not. Anyhow, upon close inspection the damage is right near one of the screws. i noticed that the surround itself had been replaced and the replacement surround does not have a notched cutout near the screws like the others do. So that said, how do I fix this exactly and where can I purchase the rubber surrounds.

OK it looks like there is two drivers with this. The rubber surround looks to be part of the driver itself, so I guess it means I need to buy two new drivers MW6509.

    Photos?

Any chance of repairing the existing surround? Perhaps a dab of adhesive, or RTV silicone?

Replacement drivers sometimes didn't have the notch and during tightening, the surround can be torn when it twists under the screw head. I trim the notch myself if they aren't on the speaker using a utility blade/box cutter.

I had this same problem on my Monitor 5s--on one mid-driver that was a replacement, and I still haven't gotten around to fixing it. Ben said that I should just try to super glue it because it's a 'perfect' tear?

I also have some silicon? If the tear is less than an inch (which mine is) I really don't see how trying to repair it would cause any problems since the driver itself is pretty 'new'?

But since you're trying to sell these that might not work. Mine were sold to me in this state? I never gave the seller any grief about that nor called him out though it was 'uncool' to not let me inspect the speaker when I picked it up. At least you did the right thing. I simply bit my tongue.

    Good Luck!

Anyone know Ballpark what a pair of MW6509 Drivers would cost? Also, one is a bass driver the other is the directional/bass driver, does this mean they are specifically ordered as a result??

Well...It looks like its going to cost me $150.00 to get two new drivers as they have to come from California. I might as well keep my damn 1B's.

I'm not an expert, but they were glued to the frame when they were made during original production, so you should be able to reglue them if the problem is where they attach to the frame.

If it's a tear elsewhere in the surround that might not work.

When surrounds are replaced during repair that's pretty much how it's done. I would google it to see what you come up with before spending $150.

Vinyl window 6" tape (for sealing around the flanges) from a vinyl siding contractor. Just a piece is all you need. Not a whole roll.

Take driver out, and put a sliver of this tape on the backside IF that is where the tear is. (on the surround)

Works like a charm and will last 50+ years. I've done a few.
