Hello All,
I need some advice before I go and drop some cash. I currently have a 2ch setup: Yamaha Receiver RXV659 rated at 100 wpc @8ohms and hooked up to my LSi9's. I have the receiver set to 6ohms and I am not sure of the wattage. The receiver claims to be high current.
It sounds OK but not what I was expecting. I am wondering if I were to purchase a seperate power amp say around 150-200 wpc at 4 ohms would there be a noticable difference or would I just be wasting money?

Thanks

    Welcome to Club Polk!

Go to Audiogon and get this amp, It will drive your speakers to their full potential.

When it comes to powering the LSI's more power is better, and you should look for an amp that puts out 200wpc @ 8ohms.

The above listed Parasound will do a great job. I gave my brother mine to drive his LSI 7s.

+1 for the Parasound. There are a couple of NAD c272s on audiogon for the same $$ too. 150wpc @ 4/8 ohms and 340wpc dynamic.

Your receiver doesn't have the proper power for a 4 ohm speaker such as the LSI's. I know others told you to get an amp which is correct, but I don't think your receiver has preouts to hook it up. Could be wrong, but check first before blowing the coin on an amp.

    I checked - the RX-V659 has pre-outs.

I have the 1500a, and have to say that there is considerable difference in sound between this amp and 1000a when driving my m70s. A very nice amp I think!

I think the 1500A is higher current - 60A vs 45A for the 1000A. The 1000A is nice though - I power my center speaker w/ it.

Agreed, both are definitely nice amps and I also use my 1000a to drive the center.
