The guy I might buy from is adament they are 2B's but the manual says SDA 2A's

He wouldn't let me pull the drivers to check numbers.

Pin/Blade IC, real wood caps, no risers.

here's the link:
http://madison.craigslist.org/ele/2411509313.html

350 is too high I suspect.

Does anybody have a serial number database or knowledge of serials to look?SDA 2 - SN 20748 (right)

Thanks,
Jason

Obviously, the manual is the wrong one.

I bought my 2B's about 10 years ago and they also came with a 2A manual. The manual is incorrect. They are 2B's. I did the 2BTL modification to them without a problem. I don't think they made 2A's with a pin/blade connector. I could be wrong though. I hope this helps.

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Look at the picture on the front of the 2A manual, compare it to the speakers in the ad.....not the same speakers, therefore they are 2B's. Another clue, the 2A's never came with the pin/blade cable.

    All good points!
F1, I did catch that about the pic. I had my brother take a picture of it for that reason (sort of). Didnt know about the p/b. Thanks again.

As for AK, you are correct. But, my brother lives in Madison, and he'd buy them for me and sit on em for a few years, or until someone drives up with room. The pickins are thin in these parts, and I need to get a pair of 2B's eventually. I've read sooo much about the 2B's and the TL mod.

    Thanks for the help!

My SDA 2B's came from the dealer with the exact same manual your seller is picturing, PLUS another that says "ADDENDUM TO THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL". The Addendum pictures the more modern design with wooden caps and no risers, and the specs for the 2B (and 2A's and 1C's).

By image and specs, your seller is definitely selling 2B's.

My Serial Numbers are shown in the format "L SDA II 14929" and "R SDA II 14983"

2B's are worth owning and in the scope of things after $500+ of mods (RDO-198's, caps, resistors, spikes, rings, Dynamat Extreme, binding posts, custom SDA cable) to make them perfect for 2011, whether you buy them at $225 or $350 isn't a huge difference.

The TL upgrade is definitely the obvious next step. I used gimpod's boards and they make it very easy... no messing around with awkward cap mounting arrangements. I think replacing the binding posts makes a big difference too, including an extra set so you can put one in each speaker to take the place of the stock SDA IC socket. The difference is easily discernable, and it's an easy and fairly inexpensive mod. The other mods mentioned are worth doing too if you've got the time and have them open anyway.
