Have sound - but NO VIDEO?.Where am I going wrong?
In connecting my AV Receiver - ONKYO TX-NR509 (see photos) to my Sony Digital TV and my DVD Player?..I seem to have run into a problem. I have great surround sound from the audio - all channels?.but absolutely NO video.
Connections from TV Cable Box to AV Receiver: My TV Cable BOX does not have HDMI access - so I used three wire, three color component cable from rear of TV Cable Box to rear of AV Receiver - connecting to the Cbl/Sat Input.
Connections from DVD Player to AV Receiver: Same situation, DVD player does not have HDMI access - so I used the same type component cable from the rear of the DVD player to the rear of the AV Receiver - connecting to the BD/DVD Input.
Connections from AV Receiver to TV (both have HDMI access) - I connected to the HDMI OUT access at the rear of the receiver, and to the HDMI IN access at the rear of the TV
RESULTS: Great surround sound from my 5 speakers?..all channels?.but absolutely NO VIDEO.
Is there anyone out there who can advise me on how to correct this problem? THANKS!

Did you set up the inputs on the receiver ? Each input has to be told what it's doing. Read the manual ?HT SYSTEM-

Tony, you said: "Did you set up the inputs on the receiver ? Each input has to be told what it's doing. Read the manual ?"
I went into 'SETUP', using the receiver remote, and 'turned ON' the HDMI selection. None of the other selctions appeared to be relevent to the connections and or the video issue.
Is there more? When you say INPUTS, is that accessed through the SETUP?
As you can see, I'm new to this. My first AV Receiver and setup.
Thanks. -

That might be the problem. Not sure where you were at in the 'SETUP' menu, and not familiar with the Onk's options, but since you are not using HDMI, you probably do not want to 'turn ON' the HDMI.
You probably want to go into what ever inputs you are using, (Cbl/Sat Input, BD/DVD) and tell them to use component, or go into the video set up and tell it auto, or component.
Since "I'm new to this. My first AV Receiver and setup" I really suggest you read the manual and spend some time exploring through the menu and familiarize yourself with your gear. Look for a section in the manual on how to "reset to factory settings" so if you get something set and can't find how to set it back, you can always resort to this. Your cable box and DVD player may have some settings avail. that you may need to set, or may want to change as well. Pre HDMI probably not as many options to worry about though. -

maybe a onkyo setup problem , what I did was eliminate all video swiching to the AVR all of my video gets plugged into the tv directly , so yes 2 things can play at once looking/sounding stupid but this way I eliminate any loses in the video swiching or connectors for picture , yes hdmi is supposed to the awnser to those problems but cables add up and I dont want more wire jungle
plus Its actually a more simplified setup .. -
Appreciate both of your inputs. Every tip adds up! I'll keep working it.
