Hi guys, As one problem got solved a curiosity popped it's ugly head when going through my fix. When my Onkyo p-301 was a working pre-amp it had switched and unswitched outlets that allowed you to plug in other devices and to turn on when you turned on the Onkyo if using the switched outlet. Now after doing the reconfiguring w/ the pre-outs I noticed very late in the game that my Yamaha RX-V665 has no such outlets at all. I then just for giggles I happen to have the spec sheets for all the Denon avrs from 2310ci up to 4810ci and all of them have outlets. Can this just be a cost cutting move by Yamaha because it seems that electrically it doesn't matter whether you have outlets or not. So guys do your avrs have outlets and do you consider this a drawback or failure of design in any way not to have them.Or am I just digging more dirt to fling around......LW

Have had AVR's with and without. Don't know if it was good or bad but I also never used them.

Don't use the outlets in components.

Ditto....don't be plugging in any other pieces of gear into those outlets. Mainly people can use them for adding cooling fans if the gear is in a cabinet other than that they aren't much use for anything else.

I would find that a draw back not having a switched outlet. I use them to power up a small wall transformer to power up amps.

Fans and the occasional FM powered antenna for radio reception. I'd miss having an outlet or two on an AVR as well.

Did the Yamaha's predecessor, the 663 have them? Usually when you get up to around $700 or so, almost everything has at least one of these?

My Yahama RXV1700 Has two switched outlest, but no switched. I refrain from using them for a few reasons, mainly minimizing the "noise" introduced into my system, and not robbing current from the main device (unit with the outlets).

Well now, it does seem just like pretty much everything else it is a matter of opinion. With most going w/ the no way to the outlets. I'm glad I brought it up because I thought it was just easier to turn on one device than all, but that's just me maybe being lazy. Still the question is why on some brands and on a fairly top model avr they do not have any and on other makes of similar quality and cost they do. I know it's not the end of the world and it was just something I noticed...

Thats like asking why on some cars do they still offer up a cassette player. Really it's an added feature that nobody really uses. So why then ? Call one up and ask them. Not like it would sway anyones decision to buy their product or not.

I don't use the outlets in components if I can avoid it. I do have one powered FM antenna that's plugged into one, though. I'm also using an HDMI-to-component converter for use with an old (HD CRT) TV, but said converter goes wonky if left powered up for 24 hours. For the latter, a switched outlet on the TV or some nearby piece of gear would be better than pulling the (not very well made/attached) 5VDC supply cable out every time I no longer need it.
    Current polk speakers:
    Family room 5.1: TC265i R/L, VM10 Center, RC65i surrounds (couldn't match the TCs)
Basement non-dedicated 7.1 HT: SDA-CRS+ R/L, 255c-LS Center, LSiFX surrounds, RC80i in-ceiling rear surround, plus Wharfedale 12" sub (some day I'll get around to building 15" F-20 sub).

As Heiney stated previously, don't use the outlets provided by other gear for anything but generic uses, NOT additional equipment.

You should utilize the 12v triggers or additional outlets provided by your outlet strips, centers or whatever power control module you have selected for surge supression instead. It's safer and a better choice in regards to proper power usage and routing to avoid thumps, instantaneous overload, ground problems and a whole host of odd issues when it comes to AC.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

No rear plugs on my SC-37, but I did have a switched/unswitched on my H/K and it was actually quite convenient. I had the unswitched for my squeezebox charger, and the switched went to a little light up x-mas tree during the holidays. lol

Weren't those plugs only rated for a couple hundred watts with no amperage anyways? I doubt they would run much more than a CD player at that level.

I would not feel the equipment was grounded properly or receiving the power it needs just plugged into the avr.
