It's been a pretty good week for me for music. I ordered and received the new Tedeschi Trucks Band CD, Revelator, and am really enjoying it. I've been a big fan of Derek Trucks and the Derek Trucks Band for a while, and less of a fan of Susan Tedeschi, so I was concerned that I wouldn't like this new project with both of them. I couldn't have been more wrong. This is an outstanding album, and I highly recommend it. It's got a little of everything; just fantastic playing and singing all around, and I'm really digging Susan Tedeschi's vocals on this. I really love the track "Simple Things", but it's all fantastic. I'm not much of a reviewer, but I totally agree with Thom Jurek (allmusic.com) on his summary of this disc:

"Revelator is a roots record that sets a modern standard even as it draws its inspiration from the past. It's got everything a listener could want: grit, groove, raw, spiritual emotion, and expert-level musical truth."

Give it a listen. I think you'll be impressed.

Thanks!
George

I've been on the fence on this.
I'm a huge Allman Brothers fan and Derek fan but his whole "world music" thing never worked for me.
Thanks for the review. I'll take a shot and pick it up.
Don't forget Warren Haynes Man in Motion and Gregg's Low Country Blues while you're at it.Nice stuff there!

There's not much of that "world music" stuff on this. There are some New Orleans style horns at the beginning of "Until You Remember" and Derek plays slide in an Eastern sounding tuning (like a sitar) at the beginning of "These Walls". Let me know how you like it.

I did pick up Man in Motion, and I like it a lot. Haven't had a chance to get Low Country Blues yet.

I'm waiting for 24-bit. Not falling into the trap of buying multiple versions of music any more. If it's new, it should be available as 24-bit from day 1, or I ain't buying till it is.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

I saw that aired on PBS during one of their fund drives - I also really liked the Tedeschi/Trucks song that aired.

May have to look into this...

I caught that on PBS also...the bluray actually is one that we play in "the studio" at the BB at which I work; at least when I am working it is on because I put the disk in to play:cool:

I got to see this incarnation of the band in Augusta in Feb. and the Wanee Festival in florida in April. They put on a great show and I liked the band more than the Soul Stew Revival edition. Thanks for the review and I think I'll pick up the lp.

I saw this show in December in Clearwater FL. Overall, I'd say it was good. When Tedeschi sang, I felt like I was at a church revival. It was a bit different than either her earlier work and very not Trucks like. His guitar playing made up for the singing part. While I feel she has a soulful voice, much like Bonnie Raitt, I wasn't expecting to be "saved" that night.

I feel your pain.I have been a big fan of Derek Trucks since he started sitting in with the ABB aout 15 years ago but Tedesci's voice just seems a bit much for what i like. She is a great singer if you like that sound but i prefer a more raw sound in a female blues singers' voice.
That said i think Derek has a style and sound i will never get tired of. The guy is one of the best.Eric Clapton didn't call him to tour if the kid wasn't the shizzle.
