Mcintosh flagship system

I got to see, hear, and play with this today. All I can say is wow, it was priced at 250k for the whole system if I remember correctly, and I'm pretty sure the guy said it required six dedicated 20amp outlet connections. It was pretty amazing to just drop in looking (and having a difficult time) for some LSi9 stands that will fit my needs. Enjoy, don't drool on the keyboard!

Oh, and, this was located at Tri-City electronics in Newton, NC if anyone cares...

    Damn, that's pretty close. Hop, skip and a jump from the lake. Even though I'm not a big fan of Mac gear, I'd like to hear this. Gotta pop over to their website and see what other goodies they have to play with...

    There just is something about this that makes me know I would not like it...

    I have found that I do not enjoy "complex" speaker systems...

    Nothing beats a solid 2-way, IMO
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

    Ha, I figured it was just cool to be in the presence of a system like that, how many times do I get to check some 200k+ audio gear? He said to bring my friends back with some CD's to play with it, had a great story of the president of Mcintosh cranking it because it wasn't loud enough. It sounded pretty cool, but didn't look like the speakers we're set up like they should be, off at two different angles, I'm sure it could be much better with some proper setup! They had a lot of KEF, B&W, Marantz, and Mac gear, I did see a small wireless polk sub...



    I've already warned them about a couple of guys from Charlotte though....

    WTF? I thought that's what I was looking at when I was looking at the first picture. Figured it was just the lens. I can not fathom why they would spend all that money on a demo set up and they miss the simple basics of audio? Especially one that's vaguely important. :eek:

    I've listened to this identical system in a prepared room and had mixed feelings. I'm a Mc fan no doubt, (not fan-boy level) but it only shined in an HT setup. The 2 channel frankly was too metallic and sterile for my ears. All those metal tweets made me feel like icepicks were being driven in my ears and neck meat!

    Some may like that type of sound, I certainly did not. Even if I had the money for a rig like this I'd pass, at least on the speakers. Much better choices available for less money.

    Glad to hear someone else has heard this system. Like I said, setup was not great, by any means. They played a classical track off of the media server, I felt that the recording wasn't great, but did have some very impressive moments. I'd really like to get there with a few hours to burn on a Saturday and check out some CD's on it, and I've got one Doors record (that plastic stuff) I'd like to hear on that TT.

    Honestly, money had/has nothing to do with it when you talking McIntosh level gear. One can find audio bliss for much less, I'll agree with you there. However, IF one is done rolling pieces in and out and has found the sound one wants and can afford it, why not spend once and for all?

    If one added up all the costs of rolling pieces over a couple years, would the total be that far off off of a high dollar rig? I'd bet not. A thousand here and there adds up.

    Most people know what they want, but are not able to discipline themselves to save for what they want and bounce from piece to piece in the never ending quest for the sound they want. Instead of just saving money for what they want, we just jump from piece to piece.

    I heard my rig several years ago and knew it was was I wanted. So I accepted what I had and actually saved my money to achieve what I wanted my rig to sound like and be done with it and enjoy the music since that is what is SHOULD be about and not the gear .

    And the amount of money is of no regard. If one can afford a $500 amp or a $5K amp means nothing. The point is to save and buy what you want and can afford. Believe me, I could not afford McIntosh gear until I was in my early 50's. I was trying to raise a family and make the mortgage. Once the pleasure of raising my kids was over, there was a huge amount of money not being spent. I saved it for my Mcintosh gear. I'm done buying audio gear.
