5-CHNL H/T RCVR W/DOLBY DIGITAL, DTS, CINEMA DSP AND TRI-FIELD PROCESSING

The RX-V596 is a 5-channel receiver providing Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, Dolby Pro Logic processing and Yamaha's Digital Sound Field Processing, Cinema DSP and Tri-Field Processing.

BUILT-IN DOLBY DIGITAL

The most advanced and realistic encoded surround sound for movies from Dolby Laboratories. The new Dolby Digital system is a fully discrete system providing six channels of sound. Five are full-frequency channels, and the sixth is a low frequency effects channel.

BUILT-IN DTS

Like Dolby Digital, DTS is a discrete 5.1 channel system. It uses a higher bit-rate for greater resolution and is available on DVDs, laser discs and music CDs.

TRI-FIELD CINEMA DSP

Yamaha's exclusive Tri-Field Processing which applies Digital Sound Field Processing technology to Dolby Digital and DTS to create a true movie theater experience in the home. It develops independent enhanced sound fields for the front signals as well as for left and right surround.

DISCRETE POWER TRANSISTORS*

Discrete power transistors rather than IC chips are used in the amplifier section to provide the cleanest sound possible. The amp delivers 100 watts to all five channels.

NEW DIGITAL-TO-ANALOG CONVERTERS*

New digital-to-analog converters with 96 kHz/24-bit capability assure that the RX-V596 can handle all digital audio formats and data with complete fidelity.

ACCLAIMED YAMAHA IC CHIPS

Yamaha's YSS-918 chip provides Dolby Digital and DTS with full channel separation and no front-to-back bleedthrough. In addition to the chip creates Yamaha's Music and Cinema DSP and Tri-Field Cinema DSP modes.

23 SURROUND MODES INCLUDING MUSIC, CINEMA, AND TRI-FIELD DSP PROGRAMS

Yamaha's exclusive Digital Sound Field Processing for music recreates the acoustic personalities of actual concert halls and other venues, such as the Roxy Theatre in L.A., Village Gate in N.Y., Anaheim Stadium and concert halls and churches in Europe. Cinema DSP multiplies the effects of Dolby Pro Logic and Yamaha DSP to provide the best possible Pro Logic movie theater recreation in your home. Tri-Field Processing DSP does the same for Dolby Digital and DTS.

6-CHANNEL INPUTS FOR EXTERNAL DECODER

The RX-V596's rear panel has input jacks to accommodate an external 6-channel decoder. So the receiver is ready for any other 5.1 channel format, should one be developed.

THREE DIGITAL INPUTS*

The RX-V596 can accommodate three digital sources. The jack panel has three optical digital and two coaxial digital inputs.

THREE AUDIO AND 5 AUDIO/VIDEO INPUTS*

The RX-V596 is a versatile receiver incorporating three sets of audio-only inputs and 5 pairs of A/V inputs. All the video inputs have RCA jacks and 5 S-video inputs. Includes one set of A/V inputs on the front panel for fast and easy connection. In addition, the RX-V596 provides S-video and composite video output.

TWO S-VIDEO OUTPUTS

S-video output jacks for TV Monitor and VCR assure the best quality video pass-through.

AUTO PRIORITY INPUT SELECTION

When different input formats are connected from the same source, the RX-V596 automatically prioritizes them and selects in order DD, DTS, PCM, and finally the analog input.

AUTO SOUND DECODER

The RX-V596 senses a Dolby Digital or DTS signal and will automatically switch the receiver to that mode when the signal is detected.

NEW YAMAHA UNIVERSAL REMOTE CONTROL

The advanced remote control with the RX-V596 has luminescent keys and preset codes for most brands of VCRs, TVs, etc.

LOW IMPEDANCE DRIVE CAPABILITY AND IMPEDANCE SWITCHING

Yamaha's famed low impedance drive circuitry is included in this receiver so that it can handle virtually all loads and a wide variety of speakers. For further speaker matching, the receiver's back-panel switches can be set for either 4- or 8-ohm speakers.

LINEAR DAMPING FACTOR CIRCUIT

The advantage of full range, 20 to 20,000 Hz, damping is that it improves the defiition and resolution of the sound output throughout the audible frequency range.

A/B SPEAKER SELECTOR

Allows selection of either a first set of speakers or a second -- or both.

SLEEP TIMER

Permits a delayed receiver turn off. You can set it for up to two hours in 30 minute increments.

40-STATION DIRECT ACCESS PRESET TUNING

Up to 40 preset AM and FM stations can be grouped in five groups eight stations. These groupings make it easy for family members to easily access their favorite stations or to have musical genres, such as all the jazz stations, grouped together.

BINDING POST SPEAKER TERMINALS

Yamaha's heavy-duty binding post speaker terminals accept banana plugs, spade connectors, and a variety of speaker wire, including heavy gauge cable.

I'd suggest someone pick this piece up as it's a great deal on a feature packed AVR.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I hada early yamaha avr (non digital) I used it for 5 years than set it up at a buddyies its still going strong , another avr he plugged his MK sub into the switched ac lead (it drew way to much power in that outlet) but it did work for 2 years before something died .
I wish I bought a new yamaha avr but got a good deal on a sony es .
I recomend yamaha to anybody .
