Are their any situations in which you prefer to leave the SDA cable disconnected? I ran into a thread sometime ago about someone preferring not to use it.

IMO anyone doing so should just sell the speakers, if there not going to take the time to do it right!!!

Nope, not a single solitary time have I ever enjoyed having the cable disconnected. They are not designed to sound their best without the cable. The entire design is predicated on having the dimensional drivers in use.

If I had an Emo amp I'd just disconnect the right and left speaker cables and listen that way....ha..ha..lol :biggrin:

For me personally, that's what I'd do. I don't want to start an Emo haters thread. They have their place in the audio hierarchy and for many they are an improvement in an HT rig over a HTiB or most receivers.

    Nope.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

    Were the responses unambiguous enough?

So far it looks to be a universal "nope".

    Oh, and nope.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Seems to me SDA's without the interconnect is kind of like a rear wheel drive care without a driveshaft.

You can experience sitting in the driver's seat, starting the engine and revving it up, but you can't get anywhere.

    Dog-pile!
If I am not going to sit down in the SDA sweetspot and listen then I switch to 7-channel stereo mode and run it through the HT speakers.

I'll add more than just a "nope"....

When I first got into SDA's, I did quite a bit of testing with and without the cable, just to learn what it was about. The soundstage definitely suffers when you disconnect the cable. Additionally, bass output goes down because you aren't creating as much pressure inside the cabinet when only half of your drivers are moving.

So not just nope, but Hell Nope!

BTW, H9, while your comment about Emotiva amps is funny, it sounds like you just didn't find a synergy with an Emo amp and the rest of your gear. Others (including me) have. No sense dragging it into a thread that isn't even about amps...
