Matched pair Rogers Studio 1a -- serials 021123a/b

These are in good condition except for the two blemishes on the front. Honestly it would be an easy as pie fix if you could find some veneer that matched or just reveneer the whole cabinet.

Words can not describe these speakers, I heard a set of Rogers (not these) at Lou's house and for music that is not super congested with distortion and so forth you would be hard pressed to find an equal...

The Rogers speaker line up is well built with BBC drivers - read about this here... http://www.mhennessy3.f9.co.uk/rogers/studio1a_brochure.htm

Technical Specification

Frequency response: 45 Hz - 20 kHz, +/- 2 dB
Impedance: 8 ohms Nominal
Sensitivity: 89 dB @ 1m for 2.83 volts input
Maximum Sound Pressure Level: 107 dBA (pair @ 2m)
Power Handling: 200 watts unclipped programme
Recommended Amplifier Power: 10 - 150 watts per channel
Drive Units: Rogers 205mm cast chassis Polypropylene cone Bass/Midrange driver of advanced acoustic design, with high flux magnet and KAPTON voice coil former. Celestion 34mm aluminium dome tweeter with Rogers mounting plate.
Crossover: 12 precision elements crossing over at 3 kHz @ 18 dB per octave. Bi-wireable input connections.
Bass Loading: Reflex to form a well damped Quasi Butterworth 3rd order maximally flat alignment with a -3 dB point at 45Hz
Distortion: Less than 1% 2nd and 3rd harmonic 40Hz -20kHz @ 90 dB S.P.L. midband typically 0.1%
Recommended Placement: Stands: minimum 35cms (14") high with loudspeakers angled inwards so that their axis cross just in front of the listener.
Cabinet: Critically damped medite with medite baffle. Selected veneers of Walnut,Teak or Black Ash. Black grille cloth.
Dimensions: 635 mm (25") High
305 mm (12") Wide
305 mm (12") Deep
Weight: 17Kg (37.5lb)

These go on Audiogon all day for 350 + shipping...

So to me with their cosmetic blemishes, $350.00 shipped seems fair... always open to offers (Im guessing shipping would be 80 bucks...)

The blemishes are very small and could be fixed with some TLC...

You will not find a better sounding speaker for 350 dollars. Bar none.

Cool, what is it about these speakers that would be desirable? Since you had the chance to hear them and all....

Yeah I think I might have let these go to cheap - had a guy offer me 400 shipped after he saw that they sold but I of course honored the sold price to the gentleman who won them :)

Great speakers - was glad to hear them

I wouldn't worry too much, he didn't give them much time at all on here before the Audiogon listing, so your chances of catching them during that 3 hours or so was fairly small anyway - its not like you're kicking yourself for letting them sit here for days...

Hey - I need room in my den... need stuff -gone-!

I usually try to give stuff a few days. I just felt this was going to be an item that potentially could have not sold here and they have some mad attention on Agon... (which just blows my mind)

Never heard of rogers, one of many in my short audio journey.

Only thing that stopped me, I am about to go get some apl speakers that were thrown in when i bought denon 3300.

Jerryj12 and i loaned each other a few things when i went to pick up the sdas i bought from him, and these were among them.

We hooked these little resin speakers to his tube setup, cranked it, and i knew i had something special.

he was playing symphonic music, jerry commented, "These are the show stealers", and his friend ed came up and said, are those little speakers the only ones playing.

It sounds like the rogers are probably similar, great detail, tone and warmth, cant wait to get them back.

Congrats on sale, and your description almost made me jump.

I also had a chance to hear Lou's Rogers on his Anthem system at PolkFest '10. They were the 'sleepers' of the Fest in that almost 'no one' who heard that system didn't come away thinking, "Hey, that was surprisingly good!".

It was also my first intro to Keb' Mo', who was spectacular on that small system!

V..is right about the 'vocals here. Rogers monitors were also one of the two speakers of choice for Demos at the Jolida factory outside of Shanghai that I had a chance to visit. The other were monster Tannoy floor-standers. Both did very well with their best system (the Music Envoy mono-blocks and their matching pre). That was the first time I heard of Rogers as well.

x-gf had some ls1's, i think...they were bookshelf size on stands that put them at abt 40"...incredible quality...sadly they were grossly underpowered by a pioneer sx450 receiver...i just couldn't talk sense into her! they did sound great at low to medium levels, though

I heard a set of Rogers, very small boxes back in 1972 that filled the showroom with incredible sound .....

they were way beyond my means and I purchased a new speaker brand made in a garage by a father & son called "Polk 10's" .... that amazed me in 1972

I had a pair of Rogers LS 3/5As several years ago. The 15 ohm type, original packing, matched serial numbers, and test papers. I listed them on Audiogon for $2,000 around Midnight. By morning, I had 7 full price offers. Great speakers!

had to get a taste of Rogers eh Sid?

mine are in the closet right now but it warms my heart that I can break these out whenever I want. They sound oddly fantastic on one of those fatman amps too.

would love to hear those 3/5's some day, I figure they have to command that silly cash for a reason.

my cabinets are in rough shape cosmetically, tempted to give them a little love. bought mine from a guy that didnt know what they were for 200.......incidentally neither did i at the time.

I'd be remiss if the 3/5 wasn't on my short list. I had a great demo on the cobbled together rig at Lou's and would love to hear more. Why these weren't picked up by someone here is silly.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
