I hope those 500 hours come before Signal's 30 day money back guarantee is up.

That's a good point. I do hate to ask for money back, the thing's not "defective" but if it needs to go it needs to go! I've been breaking it in constantly since it arrives, I will definitely know sooner than the 30 day mark, but I was planning on just reselling it.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Chances are it's probably reached the sound it's going to have by now.

I know what you mean, but maybe you can trade them in towards a copper pair and a power cord, etc...

The turn this thread took has me wondering about the silver XLR's now.

I'm running silver (RCA's) from the CDP to the pre, from the pre to the amp, and from the amp to the tweeter binding posts.

Could the XLR connection somehow contribute or should one expect conductor material to react the same regardless of the connection?

I would expect the conductor material to have the same benefit or attribute, regardless of an XLR or Composite connection.

I would too, but I'm a rookie XLR user so I wasn't sure if there is that much more at play with balanced connection

I already have all of his cables

Bit of an update from my side, I was home a little while ago and did try swapping in my copper xlr's. That cleared things up a lot. I'll email Frank and ask him for his thoughts. I've definitely been under the impression that silver can require 500 hours, so I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt if he tells me that it will mellow out with more break in. But as things stand right now with about 200 hours on the silver xlr's, I'm a copper guy all the way, at least in my current system.

As for the DAC, I like it a lot, better than the Benchmark I think. I can't quite put my finger on why. From a tonal standpoint, I don't think there's much of a difference. But the W4S just seems more fluid. Transients have a lot more "motion" to them, without sounding any darker or brighter than the Benchmark. I can see why people like this piece so much. Assuming the copper is back in the rig to stay, I'm looking forward to doing a lot more listening.

Got the SC Silver Resolution XLR's in place a few minutes ago. Wow. Even with the fan noise (physical, not electrical) I swear I can already tell how much more quiet the balanced connection is.

    Good things are a-happenin'!!

Now that I'm back to the signal copper
XLR, things are sounding incredible. Amazing stuff.
