Hi all...

What a coincidence that once the other 'Show your Rack' thread pops up (Which I love btw) something comes up that I'm interested in. Karma maybe?

Anyway, locally an item is listed as 'Audiophile Rack'.

If you could read, I will copy and paste what the ad says. The issue I'm having is, the only thing I can find online about it has almost no info. I looked through like 12 websites. There's one talking about a different rack,a nd it mentions that they had this one and moved to another. I looked on Audiogon, nothing... If you have any info/opinons (Especially when it comes to pricing) I'd be very happy to hear it. Thanks a lot.

James

Here are two images he sent me. He said the spikes were not pictured. It just seems like not much for 350???

    Thanks for any input.

Those aren't the most aesthetically pleasing pieces I've seen. I'd hold out for something else.

I'm actually sort of intrigued by it. To be honest, looks aren't super important to me. As long as it holds my stuff, it makes me happy - if you saw my current rack now, you'd understand. I literally can't find ANYTHING on this company. I found a stereophile article about another rack, and this rack is mentioned. I can't find a company who sells it in the US - maybe it's some super rack company from teh Netherdlands or something. Has anyone actually heard of this company, or has found any info on it? Who knows, it may be a very detailed (I can see in the picture there is some detailing on it, but it's not a close picture)200 pound beast that is really solid?!?!

Personally, I'd walk away. They look cheap and belong at a K-mart blue light special sale. There is so much better out there if you just take the time to look and add a little bit of patience to the mix.

Thats more like it. With the table type stands you will see all the wires hanging down in the back. Not as clean looking.

I would pass on those racks too.

Just a note on pictured rack above:
It looks great, but glass shelves usually have a lower weight capacity, especially for a 75 lb amp. Also, if he has a lot equipment it really easy to max out total weight on glass shelves.

There are other racks out there, be patient and you will find something you really like. You might also consider racks from:
    - StudioTech - http://www.studiotech.com/index.asp?p=tm
    - Salamander Archetype 5 -http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SMA5

The archetype stands are pretty easy to build, if your looking a a project. If you do build it you will save a few bucks, but not a whole lot. The archetype racks, hold a lot of weight and work well with heavy amps.

80 lb Big **** adcom on the lower shelf.

Thanks for input guys. The reason I was looking at this rack is because I almost never have extra money to throw around. I was looking to trade the guy some things for it. I'm not going to order a 350 dollar rack for my system EVER - which is why I'm not so picky about cosmetics. I'll keep being patient and keep my eyes open locally. Ciao for now.

You want something thats study and that can support the combined weight of your system. I made my rack out of steel and 1.5 " MDF board, Picked all of the parts up from the lad benches that were used to support robots at Roche Labs many many years ago. Case to point I am using 24x24 paving blocks as isolation under all of my gear and this rack has no problem with that load. Im sure that if I had a wife or girl friend living in the house this would not pass the WAF test but thats why I may have been single all of these years. Hold off on this.
