PSW505 vs. WHAT?

I have a JBL Balboa 10 and I think it is getting ready to blow. I see the PSW505 is still available at a very resonable price but am concerned that this sub is going to blow the house down! I see nothing but 5 star reviews on the sub. Is there anything else that I should consider?

Please remember the 5 star reviews heavily take in consideration of the price.

I understand that I can spend as much money as I want, but I am looking for the best bang for the buck?

It's a good bang for your buck sub, not going to blow your house down. For the money its definitely one of the better subs you can get, but if you up your budget it will not compete with HSU, Epik, SVS, Outlaw or Elemental Designs. It's all up to what you expect from a sub and what you can afford.

Thanks for the information, I am no expert and have never heard of any of these brands!

I'd stick with the brands B Run recomeneded. Look closley at Epik, Outlaw and Elemental Designs, all have great reviews, do you have a max budget in mind even though you stated you can spend as much money as you want. (If thats the case, go with a JL and be done with it, for a very long time!) Look in to dual subs, also, if the budget and space permits, look at running dual subs. Good luck!

On the AVS forum the Bic F12 is favored by a considerable amount to the PSW505. That's why I got the Bic and I absolutely love it.

I just spoke to Bic and they recommended the BIC/Acoustech H-100 instead. I see it has great reviews and just wondered if anyone had this model?

The bic 100 and the f12 are very similar subs. They are well reviewed. The best Polk sub in the price range is the 505.
    Front - RTiA5's
    Rear - RTiA3's
    Center - CSiA4
    Sub - PSW110

I love my 505. Worth every penny I spent on it. One day I may try a high dollar sub but right now I am very content. It rumbles!

Here is one reason in a review of the 505 and I am not seeing a dedicated LFE line on other units I have looked at????

"This sub is one of the few in its price range that actually has an LFE input (Low Frequency Effects) in addition to LL & speaker-level. I you didn't know, LFE & Line-Level (LL) inputs both use an RCA connector. The difference is that the LFE channel carries only low freqs from source whereas LL carries the entire sound spectrum. The LFE goes straight to your sub's amp whereas LL first goes through your sub's built-in crossover and then from there to your sub's amp. If you plug LL into the LFE input, you'll be asking the sub reproduce the full sound spectrum. Not what you want, of course. Probably not a big deal whether you use one or the other. The Polk's built-in crossover is fine, i'm sure, but I'd rather do the crossing-over at the A/V unit level."

My JBL Balboa has this and it makes a real difference in its sound so I have some concerns over some of the top end models not having this feature???

Huh? LFE input makes no difference, you can bypass the XO by either turning the XO freq very high or just turning it off which is an option on many subs. Either way you'll be fine. Most setups have the XO set at the receiver and not at the sub anyway so an internal XO is often times moot.

BIC 12 in this price range from all I've read, just sold my PSW-505 on ebay so I can begin to scratch together enough for a better a sub.
