Pangea DS03, or...?
Has anyone seen or had any experience with this stand? Looking at 28" stands for LSi9's. AA has them for $110.00 a pair, looking to stay sub $200.00 for a pair of stands. I've read a few threads here, but didn't see any mention of this stands, is there a reason why? I'm also worried about the top plate size, but not matter what, I'm going to order some blu-tack to secure them with, and will be spiked and disc'd to my hardwood. Any ideas on a good secure stand that won't cost me as much as the speakers? Thanks.

Cody, I almost bought them for my LSi9's, but because of the dimensions of the base and top I thought it may be a bad idea. The 9's are pretty heavy and deep. Not saying they won't work, don't get me wrong...but I would look at other options.
Don't rule out building your own. Mine are 27" tall with the spikes, and I wish they were an inch or 2 taller. I think your spot on with the height. -
Well then, the search continues. From the measurements I took in my room, I think 28" will do me well. I need to get down to Tri City electronics, I remember that they had quite the stand selection.

Alright, bumping this question, I've been scouring for days, even got to an audio store, and they had nothing near what I needed, I still keep coming back to the Pangea DS03 stand, the second largest top-plate I've been able to find is 7"x7", where the DS03 is 8.2"x6.7". I've never had bookshelfs on stands, just floorstanders for me so this stand thing is new territory. Anybody have a recomendation that they use with their LSi9's? I'm not looking to break the bank here, but would like a sturdy stand. Here is the link for the ones I'm looking at...

I'm probably going to get these for my LSi9s. http://www.standsandmounts.com/vtidfseriescastiron36inchspeakerstandsdf36.aspx
The top plate is 6.5" x 8". They also have a 29" high model for the same price. http://www.standsandmounts.com/vtidfseriescastiron29inchspeakerstandsdf29.aspx No supported weight is listed, but I emailed Stands and Mounts and was told these stands will support up to 100lbs. I need to re-do my measurements, but I recall 36" being about the right height in my room.
Has anyone else here used the VTI stands with LSI9s? What was your experience with them? -
gdpeck - I had seen those, but I think I'd want a wider top plate then the depth, more worried about width support for tipping reasons, they do look like some quality stands. Stinks that I'd have to pay sales tax since I'm in NC if I did order those.

Width isn't going to be a problem with either of these stands. I just measured the bottom surface area of my LSi9s and it measures 6" W x 12.5" D. This is different than the dimensions Polk specifies because of the wood on the sides. The bottom is actually tapered down to those dimensions. So either of the stands would be fine as far as width, as they will support the entire width of the bottom of the speaker. Also, this picture is a little tough to read, but to me it looks like the Pangea's are 6.7 on the width, not the depth http://www.audioadvisor.com/ViewLargerIMage.asp?title=Pangea+Audio+-+DS03+-+Heavy+Duty+Speaker+Stand&image=images/PGDS03_DD-Large.jpg
If 28" worked for me, I would order the Pangea's and save the extra money.
Whatever stand you choose the tweeter of the LSi9 will be 8" above the top of the stand. Right now my mounting situation for my LSi9s is not good. They are on their sides, but the tweeter is 35 3/8" from the floor. It's just a little below ear level for me. So I'm looking for stands to be able to mount the speakers vertically as intended and also put the tweeter at or just above ear level. -

Did you mean 8"? -
Did you mean 8"?
No I meant 6". The speakers are over 8" wide at their widest point, but they taper down to 6 at the base. They look like this
|---8"---|
\______/
|---6"--|
At least mine do. -
Hmmm.... Love the art, but I'm a bit confused. By your measurements, it looks like the Pangea stand would be a bit wide, not by much, but enough to concern me that it may look a bit goofy. Thanks for the measurements.

I guess it could look goofy. If it is actually 6.7", and you centered the LSi9 on it you would have .35" on either side of the speaker. But I think the goofy look would be mitigated by the fact that the speakers are wider, everywhere but the base. I tried to draw you another picture, but it wouldn't post correctly.
It would be really helpful if someone with either the Pangea or VTI stands and LSi9s could post a picture. Anyone using either of these? -
I just measured the base of my LSi9 and it is 7", not 6".
Not sure if they made different versions... -

Does yours look like this? They must have made different size bases at some point.
Cody, do you have your LSi9s yet? If you have the 7" base ones, it looks like you're golden. Otherwise, they may be narrower than the stands (Pangea or VTI)
Thanks!

No, I don't have them yet, I may just wait and keep searching untill I do have them here to be sure. I remeasured today and I'm ok with even a 30" or at most 31" stand, I'll be able to have the center directly below the TV and have the tweeters in line, right at ear level. Here is an option, but I'm not too keen on the looks... http://www.standsandmounts.com/plateaurtseries30inchmetalspeakerstands-rt-30b.aspx I know the weight recomendation is way off, scares me a bit, but they don't look like they'd be very tippy to me. (6x6.5" top plate) -

No mine look a bit different. I'm too lazy to take a picture now... -
Just measured mine, and they are 7" as well. May pull the trigger on those stands, but I'm going to do a few days of shopping around to be sure. Those are a near perfect height, and I don't mind the looks of them, which has been my beef with a few other stands in my price range. How about a pic?

From your picture, it looks like at some point Polk changed the way they taper the tops and bottoms of the speakers. Are your speakers fairly new? Mine are at least 3 years old (I am the third owner).
Which stands are you getting? The
Good luck with the LSi9s. I hope you enjoy them! -

Mine we're brand new. I'm really leaning to the Pangea, seems to have the biggest base plate, fits the budget, looks good, I really can't find one that will suit my needs better at this point. -
Alright, here we are. I'm happy with the stands so far, and I think once I get them filled with either lead or sand they'll be great. I've leveled them, blu-tacked the speakers on, spiked/shoed on the floor and spiked on top to the speaker, they seem stable enough. Here's some photos, hope you enjoy!

Those look really nice!
I re-measured my listening height, and it actually looks like I need the tweeters to be about 36" high. Since my LSIi9s taper more than the newer models, I felt like the 6.7" wide top plate on the Pangea's would look funny sticking out further than the bottoms of the speakers. The VTIs I liked also had a top plate that was wider than the base of my LSi9s. So I finally bit the bullet, spent a lot more money, and ordered some 28" Target HR Series stands from Dynamic Home Decor. I was able to apply some magic web discount and a 5% off coupon code, so it was a little less painful. Here's a stock photo of the stands:

Ooo.... Those look nice and stable, I've still got to fill my stands, all I could find last weekend when we we're out was 10lb purple sand for like eight dollars, so I held out, yes, I'm cheep. I hope you like yours.

I used to have that same Walker Edison TV stand when I had LSi's
