They've got this showing in one of the rooms at a local hi-fi/HT store called The Little Guys, in Mokeena. (SW burbs of Chicago) Awesome store. Anyways, It's down the street from my office so I like to swing in there on occasion and check things out. Well they've got Avatar 3D on a Blu Ray system and holy crap. It's so much better than any other 3D content I've seen. It's crazy. To me it was even better than it was in the theater. Insane. If I didn't have some place to be I would've sat and watched the whole thing. I came in just before the dude goes to pick his flying lizard thing and I nearly got virtigo from the scene where it looks over the edge of the cliff.

Anyways, anyone that can, should check this one out. Especially if you're on the fence on 3D at home. This is the future of 3D and its beautiful.

Cool, I will have to check-out that 3D demo. I haven't been to the Little Guys in a while.

3d is cool, but jesus not for everything. Look at it this way, James Cameron makes everything look better. Back in 92 when Terminator 2 was released, he brought CGI to a whole new level.

Most content though in 3d blows. Either its a gimick or it wasnt meant for 3d. I'll wait for the newer tvs that are glasses free, and once the price drops a bit. If 3d is still around, I'll make my purchase then, but no sooner.

I believe it was on an active Panasonic 65" plasma. But I could be wrong.

I'm not on the fence, I personally think this whole 3-D stuff is hogwash, Bah Humbug! Just another way to get my $$'s from my pocket to there's, I got a Beta machine from Sony that beats the pants off of anything, awesome picture, deep colors, way better than anything on a shiny disc.

    Pfffft on 3-D

Probably. Panasonic has a deal where they are the only 3D Avatar distributer. You need to buy a Panasonic TV, or maybe a BRP, to get a copy. I'm not sure how long they have this agreement.

However, 3D is a fad and even now is dying at the box office. It won't be much longer before it goes the way of Betamax and HD-video.

Interesting analysis. However the people actually tracking and projecting these sorts of things (third party with no interest in success or failure) seem to think otherwise.

    Yes. I agree.

"Has the 3D boom already gone bust? It's starting to look that way at least for American moviegoers "

""The American consumer is rejecting 3D," Richard Greenfield, an analyst at the financial services company BTIG, wrote of the Stranger Tides results."

"Consumer rebellion over high 3D ticket prices plays a role, and the novelty of putting on the funny glasses is wearing off, analysts say."

"Muddying the picture is a contrast between the performance of 3D movies in North America and overseas. If results are troubling domestically, they are the exact opposite internationally, where the genre is a far newer phenomenon. "

Time will tell if it suceeds, but the people I know who have it have gotten tired of the glasses, and headaches, and have stopped buying 3D movies. To me, it is a gimmick, and gimmicks usually fail. On the other hand, somebody did say there is a sucker born every minute.

Not to mention that an estimated 10-20% of people can't see 3-D... including me. The recent spate of 3-D movies has mostly made me stop going to the theater. Thank God X-men: First Class isn't in 3-D!

Nope. And a lot of people who can't see 3-D don't ever realize it because they just naturally learn to work around it. Your eye doctor has a test that can tell you if you have this issue. In my case, I had eye surgery as a kid to correct a lazy eye and though I use both eyes and have great peripheral vision, they're just off enough that my brain doesn't combine the data from both eyes to give me depth perception. Avatar in 3-D just looked dimmer to me.

But a significant percentage of the population has that issue without any eye surgery.

As kid in the early 50's, View Master with stereoscopic images was all the rage. To me 3-D looks just like that, flat with dimension. I'll wait for the Holo Deck to be available, then invest my $$$ on new gear.
