Mixing surrounds???
I might have an opportunity to pick-up some FXia4 surrounds. Just looking for an opinion...
If I use those as my L/R surrounds and have Monitor 30's as my rear surrounds, will this create any tonality/sound quality issues?? Or will it be hardly noticeable?
This for HT application only

You should be just fine, they're great speakers.

Very nice surround speakers!Linn AV5140 fronts

Odyssey Mono-Blocs
SVS Ultra-13 Gloss Black:D -
Okay... I was worries that the fxi3 and monitor 30's are so different that they would clash. I know my amp sometimes creates simulated 7.1 from a 5.1 sound track... Didn't know if having similar sounds coming from both kinds of speakers in a surround setting would sound bad.

I went from the 30's to the Fxi's and I can say the Fxi's do a better job of spreading the sound while still being very difficult to locate. I'm sure they'll blend in just fine with the 30's and you'll be impressed. Keep us posted.

B-Run... Do you have them in a 5.1 or 7.1 set-up?
I was just looking at the manuals for both the fxi3 and the fxiA4...
Both show diagrams using the those speakers in a 5.1 set-up (with the FXi's positioned either to the side or to the rear.). Neither manual shows them in a 7.1 set-up.
Will having a defusing speaker mess-up 7.1 sound (will the rear surrounds sound localized and the R/L surrounds be lost????)?
What happens if you use a defusing speaker like the fxi for both the R/L side surrounds and for the rear surrounds (four FXi's)?? -
I only run 5.1, but I know a lot of people on here have mixed the two and can answer that better than I can. Ideally having 4 would be the best way, but using them as side surrounds and the monitors as rear surrounds is how I would do it. I don't think they'll sound too localized but it's all up to what you hear and if you like it.
