Bobby Lee Rodgers
Anyone heard of him?
I buddy of mine saw him in a club while on vacation in Key West and told me to check him out. I'm glad he did.
He is a tremendous guitar player that does an interesting mix of Rock, Jazz, Funk, and Jam Band type stuff. He seems to shift his musical style quite a bit based on the band or project he is in. He has a lot of live shows in the Live Music Archive at archive.org. I downloaded this show - http://www.archive.org/details/blr2010-08-14.akg. Check out the song "Justice". The vocals are a little low in the mix, but the recording is very good otherwise.
He and his band mates have serious chops. He also was an instructor at the Berklee School of Music.
As a side note...I really just stumbled on to the Live Music Archive at archive.org. What a cool site! From what I've seen so far, folks known as "tapers" make their own recordings of shows using their own equipment. They are not affiliated with the band and appear to being doing this as a hobby to capture the performance for sharing with others. Many of these tapers take their recordings very seriously and use serious equipment. Then, with the permission of the band, they upload the shows to the Live Music Archive in lossless flac files (sometimes even 24 bit hi-res files) in order to provide a very high quality download. You can download the shows for free or stream. I've downloaded a couple shows. It's a bit time consuming because I have not found a way to download other than track-by-track, but it's very painless other than that - you don't even need to create an account.

He played a lot with Col. Bruce Hampton. Really good picker. If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Pretty good recording from a bunch of "amateurs".

As you mentioned, Adam, the archive site is a treasure trove of audio and video history. Some good, some not so good, but a lot of stuff you won't find elsewhere.
DEFINITELY worth exploring.Sal Palooza -
I really like this guy. He has put on a good show the last two years at the Wanee Festival down in Florida that the Allman Bros put on. He has had to play multiple sets and never disappointed.

Yeah, I noticed a couple of his Wanee shows in the Live Music Archive at archive.org. Never heard of the Wanee Festival before that...what's that all about? A hippy, trippy, Woodstock kind of deal?5.1 and 2.0 ch Basement Media Room: Outlaw 975/Emotiva DC-1/Rotel RB-1582 MKII/Rotel RB-1552/Audiosource Amp 3/Polk LS90, CS400i, FX500i/Outlaw X-12, LFM-1/JVD DLA-HD250/Da-Lite 100" HCCV/Sony ES BDP/Sonos Connect. It's a top notch Jam Band festival. If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money. -
Yeah the Allmans play two nights and sort of host the thing. There are the jam bands but also people like Sharon Jones, P Funk, Taj Mahal, and Ivan Neville so it stays interesting. I really like the venue because it actually takes place in a campground on the Suwanee River in Florida. The idea of having your own site or at least being able to find a shady spot to pitch a tent is much better than being stuck in an open field like some 3 day music festivals. The Spirit of the Suwanee music park is the name of the place and they do things year round, with Wanee in April being the biggest concert with 4 days of music on 2 stages. Also, I never would call the Allman Brothers Band a jam band because it cheapens their contribution to music and allows them to be compared with bands like Phish. Not knocking those guys but to me the only good "jam bands" are (were) the Allmans and the Dead and all these other bands in the genre are not as genuine or just seem to be fakin the funk in one way or another. In my opinion. OK Im done now.

There is so much more to the Jam Band scene than Phish. If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Of course there is. It is just that I all too often hear "jam band" used in a negative way so I would prefer for there to be a distinction between a long playing jazzy blues band that helped start a genre and the completely different bands (musically) that happen to play at the same festival. The blues set the Brothers apart from other bands and it is the blues that allows them to still defy any attempt to put them in a "jam band" category, since their music is often much darker and harder than the stereotypical jam band. That being said, I think that basically all music is great and I appreciate any band that can bring it in a live setting. That is why I respect all "jam bands", even if it is not my favorite one.

Col. Bruce is the man! I just saw your earlier post. Sorry about seeming kinda jerklike earlier. I went home for lunch and got my mind right while listening to Whipping Post off the Fillmore lp, and I now realize that I am a pissed off weirdo sometimes that thinks people are being insulting when they are not. Now i'm talking to myself. Well anyway, it is hard to discuss music over the internet(at least for me anyways) without seeming like an ****.
