I just purchased some high rez audio from HDTracks.com. What software do you guys use to play your hi-rez audio from your PC's? I want to connect to my DAC via USB from my Laptop to hear true 96/25 files which my PS3 resamples down to 44/16.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated :)

I use Winamp w/ the x64 ASIO output plugin. But I run an optical out from my X-Fi Titanium HD (in bit-matched mode) to the DAC and not the DAC via USB. There is also a kernel streaming plugin.

Otherwise I know folks use Foobar as well, but I don't have alot of experience with it.
ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place :(

I use a Squeezebox. So much easier than trying to get good audio, even digitally, out of a computer. Check out a Squeezebox Touch.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

I use iTunes on PC which I know is not a favorite here, but it's easy and the remote interface is great.

Squeezebox Touch seems the be the best digital solution. It outputs 96/24, has coaxial, and is a great media server. More money to spend :(

    Thanks guys!

It will be interesting if, in addition to this coming Monday's introduction of iCloud, Apple announces that iTunes will also offer lossless and high-res files. The rumors have been around a couple of months now on this issue.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

I don't think it's a rumor. I think they came out and stated a few months back that they intend to get into 24 bit music. Not sure I understand the motivation for them, though. Apple markets to the masses, and the masses ain't interested in high-rez.

audiocr381ve, you can sometimes spot a used sb touch for around $220 if you keep your eye out. Once you go squeezebox you can start having some fun. Check out the Squeezebox Radio. Not an audiophile product, but a lot of fun on your nightstand!

But the masses don't own or care to own a device with which hi rez will make a bit of difference. The masses own iPods and $5 ear buds, and will see 24 bit as nothing more than a reason why they cant fit as much music on their portable players. The masses play 128kb mp3's, when lossless is available to them right now.

I suppose the appeal of hi rez to Apple is that they already have the infrastructure to deliver digital downloads, and a massive customer base. So whatever incremental business hi rez brings is gravy, for very little overhead. I just find it a strange niche for them to be entering, because I've never seen them concerned with an audiophile clientele before.

Hi-Rez would be an awesome move for Apple. It's sort of akin to Microsoft beefing up the Windows/Office bloatware to soak up every bit of performance improvement in Intel processors, requiring bigger processors, allowing more bloated software, ad infinitum. Assuming hi-rez audio becomes easy to obtain for people's preferred genres and artists, if there is even a slightly noticable difference people will spend more for better hardware to get the good stuff.
