Driving Monitor 70 with samsung HT system

Just pulled the trigger on a pair of Monitor 70 speakers at Newegg @$180 each.

I am on extremely tight budget (closing on new home). While I am looking for a deal on decent AVR, can I use my existing Samsung HT-P38 home theater system to drive my new M70's ?

Here are the specs on the Sumsung HT

Output Power / Total 800.0 Watt

Amplifier Output Details 134.0 Watt - 2.0 channel(s) ( Front ) , 134.0 Watt - 1.0 channel(s) ( Center ) , 134.0 Watt - 1.0 channel(s) ( Rear ) , 130.0 Watt - 2.0 channel(s) ( Subwoofer )

Driver Details Center channel speaker : 1.0 x Subwoofer driver - 6.5 in , Subwoofer : 1.0 x Full-range driver , Right/left channel speaker : 1.0 x Full-range driver , Right/left rear channel speaker : 1.0 x Full-range driver

I plan on replacing the front LR speakers with the M70.

Any thoughts/comments ??

I kinda feel really stupid asking this... so feel free to say "****!! It won't work... get a AVR!" :)

THANKS!

    Sorry man. Not gonna work.

It looks like the back of your Samsung uses a special connector for your speakers. The Sammy speakers are 3 ohms. That's why the 70's won't work. Might be time to ante up for a new receiver...

you need good power to drive a big M70. That samsung will soon or later kill your speakers, especially the tweeters

Welcome to Club Polk raghublr!

I agree with all of the above. HTIB packages are not met for upgradability. As pointed out, they use own proprietary connections and ohmique values are totally out of the standard equipment specs. Using the M70s with such receivers will never let them sing to their potential. You may worsen your situation by doing this pairing, distortion, clipping potentially damaging your M70s. Sell the HTIB package and check for a decent used amp/receiver. What you are trying to do is pairing an audio toy with real audio equipment, you are looking for disaster and disappointment!

    Cheers!

Why does this make me think of someone buying a big 4x4 SUV that gets 9 mpg and then saying... but I can't afford to put gas in it!

If you want to ENJOY your big 4x4, then make sure you have the money for the gas too, bud...

No pun intended, but you will need at LEAST a mid range receiver, don't waste your time and money on $199 receiver specials either...

I'd go on ebay and look for a strong mid-level used amp... look in the 2007-2008 year range.

If you are outputting from a BD player into something from those years you might need to run multi-channel inputs (make sure the BD player can do that)... but you'll still get great sound and benefit from a strong AVR on the cheap.

Might be a quick fix. My 2 cents anyway...

    good luck
