Please feel free to contact our customer service department at custsupport@svsound.com if you have any questions.

Thanks for your continued support!!

This looks to be a straight up acquisition. I originally thought it was a re-org cash infusion and it still might be, but looking at the wording, it looks like a new entity.

Hopefully both products and customer support continue to be to the standards they are now and dont dip as a result of this. I would hate for this to be the beginning of the end for them....

I saw that news yesterday on SVS site too. But I wonder why SVS needs a new owner? I thought it was a very successful and profitable company and can stand on it's own.

I thought the same thing mega-16? I don't understand why 'mergers' and 'acquisitions' are what makes the world go around in U.S. business? You'd think what we'd want to see, is lots and lots of SMALL start-ups, innovation and competition--not some GIANT buying up all the little guys and lowering their quality, cutting costs then selling them off to someone even 'bigger'. American business is often, not a good thing! And I'm sorry to hear about this!

It's because being aquired is the easiest way for an owner, or owners, to get cash out of a privately held company. The only other option would be to take the company public.

Just noticed you cannot get passive cylinders anymore. That's a bummer.

It's not a cash out per Ed Mullen. The SVS team is still operating and has new products ready to launch. Whether they have equity in the new venture is not disclosed. My first reading of the statment last week led me to think it was so. Reading it today makes me think differently. I don't foresee the new ownership group doing anything to diminish the brand. SV has been trying to establish a global footprint and likely ran out of cash...especially since they've had to go dark on products due to component shortages for their new amp platform. I'm convinced the new entity allows them more strength to accomplish their goal.

    Yacoubian To Lead Specialty Technologies
By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 6/1/2011
Milbrae, Calif. - CE industry veteran Gary Yacoubian has been tapped to head the newly created firm Specialty Technologies.

Yacoubian will serve as president, CEO and managing partner of Specialty Technologies

Yacoubian has been VP, strategic development for Monster Cable for the last two years. Previously he was president of MyerEmco and served as chairman of the executive board of the Consumer Electronics Association. He will continue to advise Monster as senior strategic advisor to Noel Lee, head Monster.

Specialty Technologies last week acquired certain assets of specialty audio company SVSound. The company makes high-end speakers and subwoofers.

Under the deal SVSound will retain its senior design and product management teams and its founder will remain on board. Company founder Ron Stimpson and COO Ed Mullen will also continue to have a role with the company. These were not defined.

The financial details of the agreement were not released.
I don' like the tone of this PR.

Good Grief! I don't like this at all. It sounds like it's the end of a very decent Internet Direct Subwoofer company.

Oh why oh why the Monster VP taking the helm of the new SVS. I was thinking to pre-order a pair of SB-16 Ultra. Now, I am thinking about it twice.

Often wishful thinking over the long term. That's a lot of people flush with cash and used to running things their own way.

I think quadzilla hit the nail on the head.

It's sad to see cause often times when a company grows larger, they lose sight of what made them successful in the first place.

An asset purchase isn't usually the same as an acquisition. I worked for a company that went down in 2002. Rather than buy the company and the debt, someone came in an purchased the assets for pennies. The owners ended up holding the debt and filing Ch.7. I don't know what happened here, but the PR said "certain assets".

M&A is often used to help companies get into business quickly where they dont have a presence yet. Buying a best of breed co. In the field u want to play in is the best route to achieve this. The fate of svs depends on who specialty tech is and what they do. I personally have never heard about them, so i wont speculate...

If there is significant capital (Monster $$$) involved, then SVS truly can become a global player in specialty speakers. However, I doubt their gross annual sales ever eclipsed Monster's marketing budget for a month. They are pretty small change for a Monster sized company. It's just as likely that SVS tripped, ran out of cash during their expansion and had to look for an angel. An asset purchase can mean many things, but usually not a cash out by the ownership group. It's all specualtion on my part. Ed said "it's not broken". Hopefully, he's right.

Well at least I got a pair of ultras while they were a small operation. Even if that doesn't matter it makes me feel more reassured that my subs received carefull attention.
Details and quality can suffer when a company, in general, gets bigger.

I was thinking the same thing about getting a sub before the change...
The PB13-Ultra...proudly built in our own US factory with the best quality components, and only available at SVS the Sound Authority.

Wonder how long this will last...

Or got tripped...hard to keep operations going when you have no product...
Friday, 15 April, 2011: SVS outta everything?

Wonder where all the vaunted SVS product has gone? Sold faster than we expected or we're prepared for mostly..

In some cases SVS has been experiencing difficulties obtaining parts from Asian or even domestic suppliers on a timely basis. On occasion we've encountered issues with cutting-edge technology, but like any changing company we're also affected by widely fluctuating prices and new taxes on raw materials such as rare earth commodities... as well as repercussions from the Japan earthquake and tsunami.

There are also world-wide shortages of critical amplifier components which are creating long lead-times for our 800W and 1000W SledgeTM amp platforms. Some of the high-end, high-power transistors recently went from 8-12 week lead times to staggering 32 week lead times. 32 weeks is a lifetime in the manufacturing world.

Still, SVS is working hard to source alternative suppliers and locate caches of electronic components to restore parts flow and shorten those lead times which affect us, and likewise the auto industry, health-care suppliers, you name it.
