Strangest Spring Ever

We had a new varsity baseball coach this year at the high school where my son plays baseball who lamented he had the coldest, wettest season on record for over 50 years.

In early May, there were still games where we wore multiple layers under winter coats, ski gloves and boots! Over half of our games were rescheduled due to rain, and we ended up skipping 10 non-league games.

Fast forward to yesterday, the last day of May (and John Bonham's birthday); we hit 96 degrees here late in the afternoon!

By basement office is generally cool and it was 90 outside before I realized I'd forgotten to turn on the AC, and once it's that hot during the daylight hours there's now way the unit can catch up.

Thank God it cooled down in the evening and I turned it on at about 8PM when the upstairs inside temp was 86. It ran nonstop until 6 AM this morning to get down to the comfortable 78 I'd set. Now it's on a normal duty cycle and everything will be good except my electricity bill

It's even been strange out here in Southern Az. Unseasonably cool temps for 3 or 4 days, then back to summer. I've been here for 19 years, and this is definitely the oddest weather I've experienced. This winter we hit an all time record low of 3 degrees in Sierra Vista--it killed my 7ft cactus out back.

Today we're back to a sunny, breezy, just under 80 degree day with almost no humidity. I'll take 300+ of these!

It's been the same here in northern Michigan. Had frost last week, and rain almost every day (of course I was on vacation). Yesterday was 92, today is supposed to hit 66, with a low of 42 tonight. Worst spring I remember in quite a while.

We've had a similar pattern in Maine. My daughter plays on the Softball team and half their games have been called due to the incessant 'rains'. I've seen this weather pattern once before where it rained from the middle of spring to the end of August. Wet, wet, wet. Our state license plate calls us 'vacation land' but when there is NO sun for weeks on end one might have to emend that!

I don't discount what peopel are seeing in other parts of the country, but it seems pretty typical New England spring weather to me. Every year everyone says how crazy it is, but... that's just spring. It rains, it's cold, it's hot, you get thunderstorms... I dunno.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Don't disagree Bob, I think we have to wait to see what the 'summer' will be like. When I moved up here almost 20 years ago most summers were glorious, some thunderstorms, a week or two of hot weather but mostly 75-80 and sunny skies (real vacation weather for fishing, hiking, boating, camping, etc.).

I've also seen patterns like this a few times, but more in the last ten years than in the first. In any case, ten year patterns do not afford one any bedrock for weather prediction...could just be part of weather 'probabilities'.

But I'd 'really' like to see one of those OLD summers for once!

We've had the coolest/wettest winter/spring on record so far. 5 to 10 degrees below normal and still cloudy and gray with minium sunshine. Growing mold and webbed feet! Changing the Seatle football team name from the Seahawks to the Mallards.

We haven't even hit 100 yet in Tucson, and we are way past due for that one. They're claiming today, but we'll see.

We've had Memorial day pool parties when the temps were pushing 110.

All time record for rainfall in Utah this May. Ski areas picked up a couple more feet of snow this weekend.

Ocean temperatures are hot hot!! off of Florida. Doesn't bode well for a mild hurricane season this year.

Already at July, August type of temps.

Well, it was quite cool in May for Texas. A few weekends ago, I was freezing to death at 45 degrees for a 7:30AM bike ride. Last Thursday, I was running in 59 degree weather but by Saturday it was 69. Right now, it's sunny and 92.

I can tell definitively by the way my pool is---and isn't---heating up like it normally does. This year was a first to hit 78 degree water in early April; normally it's not until late May. But at the same time, because of a number of odd-ball cool days/evenings it has bounced between 76 and 82 degrees.

Our normal high temps for May are high 80's to low 90's; this year it's been more like low 80's.
