Need to replace RTI 150's

Bought them back in 2004 when Cruchfield was running their deal.Put them together with an Onyko AVR(can't remember model-cost about 700),a cs 2 center ,an rca branded 12 inch pws and two small rear rca branded rear speakers.Sonically ,life was good.
Then-about a year ago I decided I needed to upgrade.A pioneer 9040 seemed to be a pretty good deal.I really liked the sound of the new PIO but I did notice that it did tend to shut down when playing movies on my ps 3-sometimes at not really loud volume.(I had to crank on my Onkyo for a while to get it to shut down.Optical doesnt quite have the whatever compared to hdmi from Blue Ray.)I lived with it-I work 6 days a week yada yada only so much time etc.
Last week I blew them out-my fault entirely.Cranked on some distorted material and they are not the same.I was considering looking into repairing them but thought I'd poke(polk?)around the internet first.Ran across this site with a thread from 2004 from a customer who was having similar issues. It appears that even if I repair these speakers I will continue to have the same shutdown problem.I don't want to add a seperate amp.
What current speakers would you recommend to replace the RTI 150's?Obviously I need something that the 9040 can drive but with similar sonic characteristics. Thanks

Doesn't matter what speaker you buy if you're cranking it and sending distorted power they will all more than likely end up like your rti150's.

Yes I know you can destroy just about any speaker with just about any amp if you abuse it-that's not what I'm concerned about.
I'm more concerned with the 9040 shutting down while not playing all that loud.Seems that was a problem with the 150's that I don't want to repeat.
Do the RTI A7's have the same problem?(Need a huge amp to drive them?)
