If you had $5000 to spend on a receiver, NOT pre/pro, amps, what receiver would you most likely purchase. Doesn't mean you have to spend all $5000 on a receiver. Meaning, just stay away from seperates. The reason I'm asking is a guy at work is just about to do this but does not like the idea of seperates. Just wants a single receiver. Keep in effect all existing receivers already on the market and ones getting ready to hit the market.

for that kind of money I'd buy seperates and build a box for him to put them in! That way he'd have the one box receiver he wants...

If they guy really wants to waste his money, I'd go with B&K, Rotel, Arcam, Denon

    Not a waste...just a preference.

B&K Reference AVR507 ($4,000), Denon AVR-5803 ($4,300), Sunfire Ultimate ($4,200). All MSRP prices. I'd be proud to have any one of these in my rack!

I guess that was a little harsh, but that's still a LOT of money to spend on a one box pony!

don't get me wrong, those receivers are GREAT gear, I'd be glad to own any of them too, I'd just never put that much money into an AVR... just my opinion...
