Every Polkfest I walk away buying a few what end up being "reference disc"

First Polkfest back at Troy's was Ben Harper

Second Polkfest is was Audiophile Vocal Recordings and BB King Live At Regal

Millage Gilbert, Jackson Browne, Bluecoast Audio collection

So what are some other disc that is a "Reference" for some...

My own disc that I have accumulated over the years...

Government Mule - Dose (Great bass guitar track)
Chickenfoot - Just a fun CD
Maroon 5 (All Disc) - Dynamics
Toby Mac - Momentum - Bass texture and overal staging
Dead Can Dance (track - Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove - if your speakers can play this song you are on to something
Sevendust - Home (dynamics and separation)
There is many more - but this is what comes to mind.

Im sure there is a thread about this but I figured I would start another... bite me
- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

If I hear 1 more note from Maroon 5's whiney vocal, I will perforate both of my eardrums with a rusty ice pick.

    Sorry for the rant.

A couple of tracks I use for reference:
    * Mofi SACD: "The Captain and Me" - Dobbie Bros: track - Southcity Midnight Lady
    - This track paints a gorgeous 3d soundstage

    * Original CD: "In Step" - SRV: track - Riviera Paradise
    - sublimely mixed that creates a wall of musical delight...patiently waiting for my SACD of this to come...

    * Original CD: "Boys and Girls" - Bryan Ferry: track - Stone Woman
    - clean mix of layers and layers sound

    * SACD: "DSOTM" - Pink Floyd: track - Time
    - what can I say, 'timeless' music that sounds d@mn good!

    * Original CD: "Crime of the Century" - SuperTramp: track - Rudy
    - another clean mix and amazing sound

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.

Gladiator Soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. Also happens to be one of my favorite movies.

Michael Murray's pipe organ cd. This one digs really looooow and lets you hear and feel how low your speakers/sub can go.

Sara K- Hell or High water. This is just the best mastered cd I own.

Rachmaninoff- Symphonic Dances by Reference Recordings. This is an HDCD and is totally glorious and magnificent. One of my favorites

Sergio Mendes/Brasil '66 "Fool on the Hill" is a very nicely recorded thing. It sounds good no matter what the source.

Laugh your nuts off, but Percy Faith "Theme from a Summer Place" is clean as a whistle.

Billy Cobham "Total Eclipse" gets my vote for a great recording and best ever recorded drums, with Tony Williams a close second on Miles' "Seven Steps to Heaven".

Buddy Rich "Big Swing Face" and "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" are two live albums that no real jazz lover should be without. SDA owner/jazz lovers don't know what they're missing. Buddy's hottest BIG band in peak form both nights.

Three very well recorded songs are Count Five "Psychotic Reaction", Standells "Dirty Water", and Music Machine "Talk,Talk"
