Subwoofer Speaker posts?

I have a psw505 and a Onkyo nr-807 receiver. I have two questions: The first is why are there 2 line inputs ( a left and a right)? My receiver has 2 speaker outputs, do I plug both in and 1 to the left and 1 to the right? It works with just 1 and 1 into either channel.

The other is what are the speaker posts? Do they do a crossover that anything below the low pass filter is given to the sub anything higher is to the speakers? Does it act as an amp using the internal speakers?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Do you have a sub pre out on your receiver? If you can use an interconnect to connect that your sub. On the sub side you would use the input marked LFE.
