I'm using this amp with RTi4's front CSi3 and PSW125 sub, Rears are RM8's and RM7's rear back for a 7.1 setup. Here's the thing ,on concert dvds I seem to have to have the volume up much louder than for movies , is this common? Volume for concerts at 45-50/75 but for movies 40-45/75. Is this normal or maybe I should look for a better amp? Both are very clear at these volumes. The amp is supposed to be 105 watts x 7 Thanks for any help.

Hello, Rodney. While I can not speak of that amplifier because I have no experience with it, I can say that the volumes of almost every input varies in my rig. With satellite it is the highest, with movies on the Blu-Ray player, it usually decreases some, with SACD's and CD's the volume is all over the place. The same goes for LP's. This has been the case no matter what equipment goes in or out of the door as recording levels and formats play a large roll in the end result.
If both are very clear at these volumes, just sit back and enjoy. In other words, I wouldn't fix something that ain't broke.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
anyone here experience this sony amp? ?Thanks

I don't think it is unusual to experience different sound levels with different formats. Many years ago I had a Sony 6XX series AVR and if I remember correctly, the volume numbers you list were pretty much where my receiver was set as well.
Sony AVRs are not particularly powerful. Their numbers fall to about 30-35 watts/channel x 5 when running in surround.
If you're satisfied with the sound. No need to worry. But if you want a bit more ooomph, and your speakers CAN handle more power--which they can, you might want to think about upgrading the AVR?

any suggestions cnh? Something suitable to run the speakers I have now. Thanks

Rodney, a more capable amp will definitely yield better results in the end result as to what hits your ears but you had mentioned that, and I quote, "Both are very clear at these volumes". What exactly is it that you are looking for? A better AVR will not change the volume levels and the varying levels thereof.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

treitz3 has a valid point there. It seems that you are satisfied with your current situation. However, your AVR does NOT allow the addition of a power amp, because you have no 'pre-outs'. As for me...
I'm partial to Onkyo and Pioneer Elites. I'd find one in your dollar range. For Onkyos--at least a TX-SR 708 or higher for Pioneers a VSX-32 or higher!
If you can afford something more expensive. An Onkyo TX-SR 3008/5008 or a Pioneer SC-35 or higher would give you even more power.
However. Most people buy something like the cheaper models above and just add an external power amp (which they buy on the used market) if they want gobs of power.
I think the 708 or VSX 32 would be enough power in a mid-sized room for you.
But listen to both manufacturers, if you can because you may prefer one sound over the other?

Just figured a more powerful amp would be better for speakers.

Whatever AVR you decide to buy, ensure it has pre-outs or another option is to go the separates route, which I have done. Either way will work you just need to determine your budget fisrt."They're always talking about my drinking, but never mention my thirst" Oscar Wilde

I had sony receivers in the past , but even they trow a certain amount of sound , they are the less accurate receivers when it comes to power rating , with speakers that demand more power in higher volumes they tend to shut down . Since then i changed for pioneer never look back but Integra and Anthem are looking real good for me
