Hi guys,
Don't get me wrong here I have no intention of changing my amps faceplate
but as a curiousity I need to know. I bought my Adcom gfa55 sight unseen from Audio Classics for $ 300 even w/ shipping thrown in. After reviewing many sites it does seem that I got got a good deal on a very popular sturdy tank of an amp. I would think this question would go out to Ben if he's still around.
Can the industrial rack mount version that I have be converted to the house shelf friendly ribbed configeration. Again this will not happen I have a rack already and does look great so this is purely for informational puposes only.
I tried calling AD but either it was to early or they pulled there site for what I don't know.I'll wait til after 11am to try again but until then do any of you know if the fronts are interchangeable

My 555AIIs have unused holes on the sides for mounting a rack mount face plate.

Don, I heard back from Adcom in AZ and they told me my exact model was for rack mounting ONLY.The only way to change fronts would be to gut it and then reinstall the on/off rocker switch and the clipping LEDs. My 555 has no such open holes anywhere,so it's to the rack it stays.....

    That would be my choice!
Sometime soon I hope to try my two 555IIs in the bridged mode on my B$W 801s.

hey Don, sorry to get back this late but how are the B&W speakers. I know that's it's kind of a hard question to answer but I've never heard any of the 800 line. I do know they go for some go change and for me I still might be a Heritage Klipsch guy.I never saw any for sale except on A-gon .

I have the old 801 Series III Matrix speakers and the 803 Series II Matrix. They're my favorite of all the speakers I have. Some say the bass on the 801s is bloated but with the right amplifier it's rock solid, the midrange and highs are full and clear and not fatiguing to list to for long periods. I first heard the 801s powered by Mark Levinson mono block amps. and the slam of the deep bass was almost scary. I'm using an Adcom 5800 with 250 watts per channel and they sound very good in my living room.
