Howdy All,
I been lurker for long time  Polk lover since bought SDA2 in Germany 1984. Yeah I am old . Got back into Stereo couple years back have since collected pair of each monitor 12,10,7 series II and just bought what was suppose to be SDA 1C ... they sounded great got home ( 180 miles ) didn't sound good :(
took the offending speaker apart and found lose wires... worse part was also found out they were MW6509 SDA 1B .... :) (sucks that people don't know or are dishonest...but shame on me for not doing my home work !! ) Nice speakers still , but not what I wanted . after repairing the spade connections, had a listen for couple of hours . noticed some distortion :( one of the drivers is bad MW6509 there is also one that is also scratched so I am looking for a couple of MW6509's So if any one has spare or 2 please let me know :) .

I was also lucky enough to pick up a pair of Carver ALS ( 2- 30 inch ribbons and 4-12 in 16 ohm woofers MOD ) they were not soldiered well , actually very BAD... so I rewired and ran them with 125 Kenwood for 3 hours sounded great :) ... nut Yes it killed the Kenwood so if anyone has a nice amp that can drive low ohm ( amp killing speaker) for not to much :) I would like t hear from you also ...

I love my Polks and will continues to collect them . but if anyone reading this gets a chance to hear the Carver ALS speakers , I think it is definitely worth your time :)

thanks for your time

Kent

If that makes you old, then I must be ancient.

Welcome! I've about decided that vintage speakers are less of a $$risk than vintage electronics for a lot of us.

AGE I retired from the military after 21years in 1976! My third grade teacher cried when Roosevelt died. I stayed up late listening to the Truman/ Dewey election news. We used to sit around the radio watching the heavyweight fights.
Buster Brown was on the radio on Sats. and I'd hurry up raking leaves so I could watch it. I'd rake them up in a pile and burn it. Grandma made soap in a large cast iron kettle in the driveway and it was my job to keep the fire going. I liked to reach up to wind up my Grandma's Victrola and listen to her 78s. Had a stylus about the size of a small finishing nail.

Damn Don, you are old. he he Just Kidding. Although you make me feel so young.

Let's see in 1984 I was 11. I had a Panasonic Stereo with Thruster speakers. I traded in the thrusters for Polk's when I was 12-13 (Monitor 10's) traded them in for Monitor 7's. Boy that was a long long time ago.

Did that kettle do double duty with hot water to pluck chickens? My grandma's did.

Your Carver ALS can dip as low as 1 ohm, so you need an amp capable of handeling such loads. Carver Silver 9t & 7t monoblocks were designed to handle the ALS loads, and do so quite well.

I doubt anyone will come along to make me feel younger.
One advantage I have is that all warranties over 90 days are worthless.
