Hello once again,
In my spare time I started to remenice about a set of headphones that I really liked. At the time when late night listening was a right of teenagers w/ the likes of Alisson Steele the Night Bird on very late FM and was the only way I could do this was through a set of headphones.I first came across these at a friends house whose father was an audiophile /audio engineer and had a set of clear see-through Super -x phones. I can't tell you how impressed I was and then got my own set,not see through but the same model. The seperation was amazing and the only problem I remember was that they were pretty heavy and because they were of a cetain rubber/plastic material then tended to sweat.
The fidelity outweighed this and was way ahead for price point were Koss and Sennheiser were out of my reach. I do remember they were made in Yonkers, N.Y. and I owned them for years. So does anybody remember these h/p and what happened to the Super-X BRAND....LW

Koss? Was Koss a different company than I'm thinking of? I know I'm a little young around here at 32, but I've never known Koss to make anything that was worth more than about $3. Was this one of those companies that became a victim of being bought out? (cough cough Klipsch)65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

Over the years, Koss has made some good to excellent headphones, including electrostatics. Last I knew, they were still making a variant of the Pro4 - versions of which date back well into the 1960s.

Cool - I never knew they really did anything right. I wonder what ever led them down the path of making all the rest of the electronic garbage to the likes of GPX.
I'm a victim of advertising I believe. lol - only headphones I know anything about are Bose and Beats. lol65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

glowdr,I don't know if you are goofing your just to young but yes, Koss was one of the top of the line headphones going .I believe on certain models they had a knob the adjust the sepration or timbre. This I'm not sure , but yes they were up there w/ the best. Pretty much the same time Marantz was the leader in affordable recievers.
As for beats I've noticed that many more people are ditching them than buying the set.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Koss, was a great company at one time. I had a pair of the Radioshack/Koss headphones way back in the day. They were really good for the price.

Just dawned on me - the OP is asking about "Superex" headphones!
Yeah, I do remember those. Let's see what Google remembers about 'em...
I think of them as truly "pro" (radio applications) headphones (FWIW). Looky:

I never had the Superex, but I do have two sets of the Koss Pro 4AA. They will hold their own against a lot of today's offerings. Koss will still replace the ear pads for six bucks on a lot of their models.>

The only problem with the venerable Koss 4AA (from my perspective) is that they fit one's head (OK, my) head!) like a vise. Sounded good, though.

Constant use will tend to prevent your ears from sticking out as you get older.>
