I think you may need to upgrade the caps and wash the panels to give them a boost but usually they need replaced and owners just dont want to pay the money . If you do get them and buy new panels then your in for a treat, martin logan has decided to have a lifetime support for parts on all speakers so thats a very good thing .Another good thing with the panels that they manufactor today is that they are coated with a anti humidity coating so they stand the test of time if you dont smoke, vacume once a month and have a reasonably clean listening room
Martin logans are magnificent but here's the drawback with the sequel 2 is that the bass and panel integration was supposed to be not that great and that they only really fixed this problem when they released the 3rd sequel speaker the SL3 . I think that with a bit of work and some new panels your gona have a great speaker and its local so give them a good checking over for cracks on the rails or suspect looking woofers
Sequels are huge speakers and with that your gona have a wall of sound .Another good thing is that the sequel design has the panels closer to the floor than the other older models so they will sound great when sitting on the sofa
Gorden(hawkeye) would be our resident expert here on ML speakers so I'm sure he will chime in and give you some great advice .I love my martin logans and will but more in future -
thank you fb, great advice, might be more than i can take on right now, also, just out of curiosity, i think i know the anxwer, lifetime support meaning they will be stocking parts for sale, not that all parts are always covered under warranty right.humpty dumpty was pushed

Yes they will be planning on stocking all parts for every speaker for life and we martin logan owners have a polk forum member -justin- to thank for that as he listened to everyone who said it was BS that the folks who started the brand are getting left behind

Hi scotty,
An original Sequel owner here, mine were built in '86 or so, still on the original panels, lucky me. ML has one of the best customer service centers around. Just like Polk, you can talk to real people how know and care about you and the speakers. Another good thing about the early models is the crossover componets are superb by design, long lasting, but a check up by someone who knows wouldn't hurt, never poke around inside until at least 24 hours after you've unplugged them, dangerous voltages lurk about.
I'm sure you've checked the site for info, but for anyone else, http://www.martinloganowners.com/forum/
You're in for a treat, they are an aquired taste, but sweet in the right room and with the right gear. $500 for a good pair is a steal, get'm!!Thorens TD125MKII, SME3009,Shure V15/ Teac V-8000S, Denon DN-790R cass, Teac 3340 RtR decks, Onix CD2...Sumo Electra Plus pre>SAE A1001 amp>Martin Logan Summit's -
I had a set of SL3s very slightly upgraded version of the sequell 2, and my experience with upgrades on mine were not worth the expenditure. Ok, so lets assume that the woofers(not subs) are ok, but just in case they are particular vifas and are very near to impossible to find other than Martin Logan and they want 250 each plus shipping. Now, panels assuming they came from a perfect enviroment, they still have a lifespan of 10-15 years, and new ones will cost you 700 plus shipping. Last, but not least, the xovers are fairly simple to upgrade, however you are still looking at about 200 plus in xover upgrades, and while you have the lower cabinet open you might as well throw some dynamat, and that is another 60-100 for both. But to be honest with you, i have upgraded some Sda 1c and have found it to be a better upgrade both financially and sonics. Just my two cents
