Any you old-timers know anything about this amp?
Looks like it's well built, about 200wpc.
Sorry, fat fingered tittle, DA1 model.

That's what little I could find. Seems to have dropped off the face of the earth
and resurfaced as a car audio company.

It's the other way around. They made a short foray into Home audio during the early nineties but dropped out of the home market. It's a very nice amplifier. I have their complete line minus this piece.

Wonder if it sounds like any of the Krell amps.

It's a bit different. There aren't any speaker relays or muting circuits,
so there is a pop on turn up. Fairly neutral with good highs and
a very hard hitting bass(yes, Krell-like). I also brought out
the Rega R3's. These just never sounded good on tubes.
I don't know if it was the 6 ohm, or the odd way Rega coupled
the woofer on the side, but the low end just wasn't there.
With this amp, they come alive.

I have brochures for your amp. Email me if you want them. I would have uploaded them here but they are too big.

Cool. Took a chance and bought one with blown right channel. It's in the shop now and can't wait for it to be repaired.

Dual mono, lots of current, big blue "beer can" size caps, lots to like about them. I prefer the DA-2 due to its single rack space size and bridging capabilities. Good snag!

Ummm...no. Soundstream was a car audio company first and dabbled in home electronics. They were groundbreaking in alot of stuff in the audio world.

They were one of the few companies running true class A power in the car audio amps and they were clean as a whistle. Their reference series was the true reference. Everyone used Soundstream as a benchmark. Even when Kenwood and Sherwood were pushing their Class A power amps, they were citing Soundstream in their documentation.

You can also thank Soundstream for Class D power. They were the first to use a Darlington transistor to double the current gain and half the foot print of their amps for subs. Hence they had multi-stage sub amps capable of thousands of watts and stable well below 2 ohms. It was sketchy at first but once it was worked out, the first round of power wars between Soundstream, Hifonics and Phoenix Gold hit and there were insane numbers showing up in competitions and records seemed to be being broken every other show.

Soundstream fell in to bad times during Clinton's recession and quality control dropped. They recently re-emerged in to the marketplace and have been putting out some very nice and very stout equipment again.

They are legendary and a heavyweight in the car audio world. It's mostly the punk kids that just got their drivers licenses trashing Soundstream because they weren't even born during Soundstream's first heyday. When they brought their expertise in to the home audio world, they turned power amps on their ear and brought some big guns to the table. That DA series of amps made waves because they often put out twice the wattage at amperage levels that you just didn't see at that price point at that time. Lots of people raved about them for the copious amounts of clean power. They are hard to find in good shape now but seriously under-rated and worth every penny.

I got the brochures and some real links thanks to a fellow Polkie.
A lot of older amps like this are hard to sort out. There was so much chaff
to sort through when searching. I also have the manual now.
The thread is a couple weeks old, so yeah I figured out their history already.
I haven't messed with car audio much in decades. Around Dallas,
A good car stereo seems to be a quick way to broken windows
and missing gear. They don't seem to let car alarms stop them, either.
