I have heard many saying they love dsx for movies and games

The more speakers the better in that large room of yours . Most people will be right in telling you that movies are mostly 5.1 and all these extra speakers are a waste of money. All speakers are a waste of money if you look at it like that so it all boils down to having fun

I would go for dsx if using a projector, but I would not get carried away on spending alot as the extra speakers youl buy are just for ambient effects but make sure its a timber matched set from the same family .I had some fxi in a height config and they were fantastic and can see myself definitely going that route again once I buy a 9.1 preamp

I'm running 9.1 with Dolby Pro-Logic IIx + DSX Height. I never turn it off. At first, I used DPL-IIz Height, but after playing around with a few video games (most particularly Halo: Reach), the height effect seemed far more precise with DSX. You can aim a rocket at a spot above you and then tilt your view back down and the explosion images pretty much where you'd expect above you. Even ambient noises like planes flying overhead in the distance are pretty well placed above you. It's a very cool effect.

If all you can do is 7.1, I think you get more by running rear surrounds, especially if you have a large room (and also because movies are all starting to be mixed for 7.1 theatrically). I tried DSX Width briefly and it didn't do much for me... but then, my mains are spaced pretty wide because of my projector screen and I'm using dipoles on the side, so I don't really have a gap in sound on the side walls.
    Equipment list:
    Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
    Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights
SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer powered by Crown XLS1500
    Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
    DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
    Epson 8500UB 1080p projector
Elite Screens Sable 120" CineWhite screen
