I'm gonna be in D.C. on June 8th and was just wondering what are some good places to eat. I'm not looking for some expensive fancy restaurants or anything like that, just maybe some delis, diners, etc..I will only be there for a day so I want the best places Thanks!
I love animals, they're delicious!

What part of DC?
I love the Jose Andres restaurants. I mostly like Zaytinya (Middle Eastern) and Oyamel (Mexican), but I hear they are all good (though some of the others are more expensive/fancy). Since he did just win the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef, it seems like an appropriate meal if you are only in DC for a day. -
One landmark eatery is Ben's Chili Bowl !I have never been there myself but someday, maybe on a museum day.

....For a quick snack while touring ....try the Old Post Office. Its right downtown and a great landmark. Not the best food but great for quick snack.

In Morgan Adams or near Dupont Circle, Avenue P, there's a Thai place on the second floor, I can't remember the name (sorry ), dirt cheap, awesome food, their crying tiger steak is fiercely yummy. ask around the area, I bet folks know where it is exacty, lot's of locals on my visit.
Have a great time in DC, beautiful cityThorens TD125MKII, SME3009,Shure V15/ Teac V-8000S, Denon DN-790R cass, Teac 3340 RtR decks, Onix CD2...Sumo Electra Plus pre>SAE A1001 amp>Martin Logan Summit's -
I think the Thai place you are thinking of is on northeast corner of P and 17 St NW (Bangkok Thai). I work half a block from it (the only time I ate their was when I interviewed for the job). There are plenty of very good Thai places in DC.
Ben's Chili Bowl is definitely a DC institution and half-smokes are probably the only real DC food. I am not a big fan of hot dogs or chili, so I can not say much about the food.
If you like good burgers, Ray's Hell Burger just across the river in Arlington is well on its way to becoming a DC institution. Speaking of burgers, if you like Five Guys and have a car, you can go the original Five Guys in Bailey's Crossroads.
If you are going to museums, a surprisingly good place to eat is the cafe at the Museum of the American Indian. If I am on the Mall for any reason, I often end up there. -
Hell, if yer going into VA., try Red Hot & Blue for a pulled pork sammich!

Capitol Grill, Morton's, Ritz Carlton there are many excellent places for a big expensive meal. Look for the more funky joints in Georgetown. More reasonable priced, a lot of variety and atmosphere! Enjoy!Carl

There's only a couple of thousand good places to eat in DC.Political Correctness'.........defined

What part of DC will you be in? NW,SW,NE or I hope not SE. Like Jesse said there are so many places to eat.If you are down on the mall ,someone already suggested the Indian Museum Cafe. It is the best place in the museum row. Now let's talk expensive. Most good sit down restaurants in DC will be pricey unless you are from LA,NY or ect. Ben's chili bowl is good eats but is off the beaten path near 14th and U ST NW. Metro stop is less than a block a way on the green line. My rec is to ask a local for a nice non chain owned restaurant. I love the PRIME RIB on K St. Reasonable lunch specials less than $30 a person without counting cocktails.

....If into seafood.....go down to Maine Avenue for a treat. Locals know it. Get to see the wholesale seafood market and eat if you choose. Once there .....there are a group of great restraints on the river. Not necessarily the best....but great location.
....Interesting to know how many members live or work in DC>??? -
Hey Dee, did you ever eat at Hogates or the Flagship? I have fond memories of both places.
