So I get my fair share of calls here and there. I politely tell them that I am not interested and they promptly hang up!!! WTF?? I was polite to YOU why don't you be polite back instead of hanging up on me?

I was thinking that the next time, I'll take down the persons' name and company # first, and if they hang up when I turn them down I'll call back the company and "report" them. Of course I always think that and never actually do it.

Ehh...it's just the nature of their job. The sooner they're off the phone with you, the sooner they'll be making their next call/potential sale. Reporting them is just going to get the dude written up and potentially cause him to lose his job. I wouldn't.

Well, alot of places have strict policies against further contact once the contact has expressed no interest in the product or service being marketed. I know in the U.S. that even further polite remarks can be construed as a low-pressure sales tactic that can be prosecuted if the contact has already stated their lack of desire for the contact. The hang up, while rude, may not be intended that way but rather as a way to prevent further escalation of any possible issue or avoidance of legal action. The laws have gotten really strict here in the states about it and more than a few companies have been burned by it even when unintentionally giving an impression of actions that the laws explicitly protect against.

With everybody being so sue-happy in this day an age, I can't blame them.

When I get those calls I simply ask them if they can hold on and I put the phone down and go watch tv or have dinner or something.

I never do know how long they stay on the line for...

I love those kind of calls. I have fun and pull all kinds of shenanigans on them. 99% of the time, they never call back.

I love when Olin Mils photograghy calls and asks if I'd like a free portrait, I get shrill and say "I've just been hideiously disfigured in a propane accident, and you want to take my picture??!!"

Sometimes they feel really bad and apologize, then I feel bad.....well kinda

The last time I got one of those I acted like I was mentally challenged and frustrated the guy enough he hung up....lol

The sad part was, the guy was still trying to sell me insurance even though itmust have been clear to him, I wasn't all there.

We do have one, we registered and never get calls.

The other option is check your call display, if you don't know the number don't pick up. I love that we can see who is calling when we are watching TV, so I don't even have to reach for the phone!

those don't even work in the states Jesse. I got rid of my home phone and bought a track fone even still get them on those. Even had an unlisted number found out the local phone company was sell all the numbers to marketers although without any names still you would think an unlisted number should be sold along with all the rest.

Automated calling does not get a telemarketer in the US around the Do Not Call regulations, unless it is for one of the listed exemptions (ie political calls!).

In Canada if you continue to receive telemarketing calls after registering for the Do Not Call list, call the Canadian Marketing Association and give them the information on who is continuing to call you.
