Squeezebox doesn't see track 1!

Title pretty much says it. Bought a squeezebox classic, love it, and as a result I ripped my entire collection (not huge compared to a lot of you guys but almost 700 albums) that was not already in wma lossless into wav format (using wmp). Now my squeezebox does not recognize the majority of the first tracks, but it does recognize those that I had previously ripped in wma, and even a few in wav. What is going on? Do I have to go in and tag all these individually? Because that is gonna suck...Any help appreciated.

Definitely sounds like something's up with tags.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

I thought tags didn't work with wav (at least not very well).

RT59 - Have you tried to rescan your library, selecting "Clear library and rescan everything"?

Ah I missed that these are wav. In that case I agree, I'd start with a clear & rescan.

Did oyu tag them properly when you ripped them? Are these all your own rips or are they some that perhaps you ripped awhile a go or downloaded?

Squeezebox has a great user forum for these types of questions if someone here can't answer.

I'm sure there is a tagging issue you will need to resolve.

okay thanks guys. I let wmp do the tagging automatically, and it gets almost everything right. I have tried rescanning, and that didn't fix it. I did try a little searching and saw some posts from like 5 years ago listing some problems with wav files and tagging, but I figured that wmp must have fixed that by now. Plus when I look at the tags on one of the suspects, track 1 and 2, the tags look the same to me. However, tracks 2 on up show up fine on my droid phone or the ipad, but the track 1s are listed under unknown albums.

I have not tried uninstalling the software. I might try that today if there are no other suggestions.

I am not familiar with wmp (I assume that's WINAMP???) but if this issue carries over to the phone's, then it's a tagging issue for sure.

Windows Media Player (but yeah, it's definately a tagging issue). Try this - open the tunes in iTunes, and let that retag your stuff. I found that iTunes was a little more accurate so I let it do it's thing, then use wmp to listen.

I am using windows media player as the file source for the logitech software to pull the files from, because I have a droid phone and no files in exclusively aac format. My itunes files for my wife's iphone and ipad are kept and a seperate hard drive so that the sqeezebox server will not have double files. So as it stands I don't think that itunes thing will work since they are pulling from different hard drives...

I did the clear and rescan again and still not working. Is there a deeper tag issue to look at?

Sorry can't help.........I don't use wmp at all. I use Media Monkey and dB Poweramp for all ripping and tagging.

    Hopefully someone can help.

Definitely a tagging problem, don't bother trying to do any reinstalls of Squeezebox. If all the track 1's are missing under unknown albums, then your track 1's didn't pick up an album tag.

Great advice - the real, nitty-gritty Squeezebox stuff is covered over there.

    OP - Why wav?

I figured wav was more universal than wma lossless and wmp doesn't do flac. I just didn't anticipate this problem or I would have gone another route.

I will checkout that other forum. I tried changing some settings and nothing has worked yet. Maybe media monkey? Could I import all my files to mm and have it retag or would I need to re-rip everything?

You can manually tag stuff in MM. I wouldn't re-rip anything because of a tagging issue. Tagging can be done manually to the offending tracks. You may consider using MM from this point forward for ripping and auto tagging (not sure about WAV since I've never used WAV files), but I see no reason to re-rip because of a tag issue.

Too late now, but WMP does actually do FLAC, you just have to download a plugin. The only downside is that all of your songs will show as 0:00 lol. Off topic, but Nero also doesn't recognize FLAC for burning which annoys me. I've thought about redoing all of my archive (only did about half in FLAC) in apple lossless just for iTunes sake. When I started I had a droid and a zune. Now I've got a touch and an iPhone.

Nero most definitely has a flac plugin!

Does anyone know how to fix the problem in wmp? I would be great if I could just tag the problem tracks but I don't see a difference in the way they Are tagged rit now...

Get dbpoweramp and batch-convert wav to flac. NO loss in quality and more flexibility. Will save space and require less bandwidth, too. This may come into play if you're streaming wirelessly. It's also easier to move smaller files around.
