New Living Room Home Theater Build, Need input and ideas

Hey guys. I am planning to start putting together my new home theater system in my living room. I need your input on what gear I should look into and if it would be worth buying any sound trapping materials to put in the corners or the walls.

I posted a video that shows the room and my ideas about speaker placement and what I could do to help the sound quality by adding some sound deadening to the corners.

Here is the gear I have selected so far.

Display - LG 250PK 60 inch Plasma
Mains - Paradigm Studio 60s v5
Center Paradigm Studio 590 v5
Rears Paradigm Studio 20s v5
Subwoofer - undecided
AVR - undecided
AV Stand - undecided

For sound treatment, I want to keep it simply and cheap.

Here is a picture of the three front speakers. I am going to build a stand for the center and place it above/behind the TV.

For the subwoofer, I found a local guy selling his SVS PB12-NSD (older 325watt BASH Amp Version) for $450. So I thought that was a pretty good deal considering my room is not that big. Comes with 3 year transferable warranty as well.

It should help me put more money towards a quality pre/pro and interconnects and room treatments.

what is a interconnect? is it just the proper way to connect two separate lengths of speaker wire or what?

Sherardp, I can't hang the TV, I'm renting the house. I would rather move it up a ft to have bigger picture anyway

Esreuter, Interconnects are the cables you use to connect your pre amp / processor to your amplifier. Info here --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interconnects

Perhaps an entertainment stand would work for you. One thing I see that may be an issue is the size of your center channel.

Your correct. I am building a custom black speaker stand for this. I will put the stand on the table or on the floor. I haven't decided yet.

I went to the dealer today to pick up the DHC-40.2 but all they had was the DTR 40.2 so I got that one instead. It was a demo unit with full warranty for $800 so I couldn't say no. I also finally picked up the Parasound 2005a. This thing is a monster. I'm going to hook up the two main speakers tomorrow along with the sub and listen try it out. I don't have an audio rack yet but I will try to post some pictures tomorrow. I need to find a cheap yet strong AV stand for these two components. the amp alone is close to 90lbs and 22 inches deep.

After looking at your video, I think that I would reverse your setup and put the tv and speakers where your couch is now.

I would but since my computer is on the other side of the wall in the bedroom, I need the equipment to be as close as possible to run cables and a wireless mouse and keyboard. Right now the Only thing I will be using my TV and receiver for is my HTPC in the other room.

does anyone have any suggestions for audio racks or a small Tv stand I can use as one less than 30 inches wide? I went to 5 or 6 stores and outlets around here and I can't find anyhting. the Parasound @2550a is w 19" x h 7" x d 19 1/2",

Not to tell you how to do things, but...that's a really open-ended question. Are you looking for something closer to a "traditional" rack (I have all my black Adcom 2-channel gear in a black Mid-Atlantic one, which has no subtlety and low WAF) or are you trying to blend it with something? How tall? Are you really planning to go full-on rack-mount with "ears" or are you looking for correctly-sized shelves? Will Ikea-type furniture be sufficient, or do you want to build something? (My father still uses the stand I built out of 3/4" oak furniture-grade plywood for my dorm room 24 years ago...wish I still had that kind of time...) What's your expected budget for this?

If you don't bound the problem for us you might still get lucky and get some really good suggestions...but perhaps a little more targeting information would help those of us in the peanut gallery...

Sorry for not being specific enough. Actually I am trying to decide if it would be better to buy a large TV stand that could support my 60 inch plasma and the amp and receiver and large center channel. Whatever the model I need it to be the " open air " type so that the components can breath easily. This might be the better option instead of trying to build a custom center channel stand and buying a separate a/v stand.
