I just finished putting my last Monitor 70 in place(ordered 1 at a time)........this completes my set-up:smile:

ALL I ***WANT*** to do now is get a XPA-3 amp for my L/C/R..not that it doesn't sound GREAT now but the external amp should put it over the top:biggrin:

I have the option to set all speakers to either 6ohm or 8ohm.....8ohm 135 watts per channel(yeah right).....6ohm 185watts per channel....ALL speakers are 8ohm

Whats the correct setting?

my gear is in my sig.

I have all speakers set at 6ohm.......so it would sound better if set at 8ohm?

1 more question both my F-12 subs have a Crossover frequency switch of either prologic or dolby digital 5.1,6.1 & 7.1 setting......NOW UNLESS I MISUNDERSTAND THE OWNERS MANUAL OF THE F-12'S............I have it set wrong.......I have it set to dolby digital....but the manual says if using Sub In jack to use Prologic,if I dont use prologic the crossover frequency's will not work......HUH?This has me confused.

I would actually stick that receiver over buying an emotiva amp. I'm not going to call that amp bad, but the amps in that onk are good, and that amp just would not be worth it to me.

If you're going to add an amp, get a real amp like a parasound as suggested.

Fwiw, I didn't like the XPA-3 on its own for my front stage. I liked the XPA-2 better, but eventually settled on a more efficient solution. YMMV. Enjoy what you've got for now, and be patient with your amp purchase. The right amp will find you.

Don't know about your subs, but your speakers are 8ohm speakers and that's what you want your receiver set at, besides, I think the setting is actually between 6 - 16, is that correct?

I have an XPA-3 with my 807, same power as your 1008, and love it. Of course, there are plenty of better amps out there, I was on a budget and the Emo was priced right for me, turns out it's not such a bad amp.

Glad to hear your getting your set up on and running. Prepare yourself for some awesome listening.

Why not a XPA 5's and run your wides, or high wides off it as well. It will free up some power for the rest of the system that is powerd by the avr.

That's right, the 1008 is pushing 135 with 2 channels driven, so using a three channel amp for the front stage will leave the receiver with more than enough to handle the rest.

I've always liked Onkyos (heck I run one myself). But I can't disagree, since you're running in 7.1 + 2 there you're drawing a lot of amp reserves away from the front three.

Also, how about some pics of the set up? I second Larry's recommendations above on the Parasound or Sunfire.

    Have fun!

Yep the key word is 2 channels driven. Start hookin up more speakers and the wattage goes down.

The more speakers you can get off the AVR's amp the better the speakers being driven by the avr will sound. The price difference between the XPA3 and XPA5 would make it worth it. It isnt like the XPA5 is double what the XPA3 is. Yes the avr will work with all your speakers. I am just saying if your going to buy a XPA3 then you might as well get the XPA5 for a little more cash.

This is for the Onkyo TX-NR807

Here is the bench testing from Home Theater Mag for the Onkyo TX-NR807

Look for a Parasound HCA 1205A, splendid amp, owned one, I believe 140 watts into 5 channels (more than enough). You should be able to find one for around $400-500. It was designed by John Curl, I would venture to say it would put an XPA3 to shame, sound quality wise. In that price range you might also fetch a Rotel RMB-1075, various other Parasound amps, or perhaps for a little more money an Anthem MCA3 or MCA30 if you are lucky.
