Timbre matching with Tri-Laminate Tweeters

Hello All,

Hoping to get some help matching up a center channel, presumably with the same Tri-Laminate tweets, to my new fronts. I've been tweaking with my setup for some time now, and finally went ahead and grabbed a pair of RT1000p towers. Here's my current setup:

Mains: RT1000p
Center: RM8
Surrounds: LS f/x
Back Surrounds: RM8
Sub: PSW350
A/V Rec: Yamaha RX-V1800

Now finding a nice center is my next goal, but since these tweeters have been phased out for the softer composite dome type, I am searching eBay and Craigslist for a suitable suitor to complete the transformation. Thus far, I've been checking out: CS300, CS350, CS400, CS245i & CS400i. Any other suggestions? Is there any hope for matching with the newer domes like the CSiA4, or would the difference be really noticeable?

I bought the RM8s as a 5.0 set, even though I only wanted 2 for back surround mounting, for $80 more I went with the whole set (so I have 2 for sale!). LFE out is ran as series from the 1000ps to the sub, 110Hz crossover from Yamaha and around 80Hz on the PSW350. Everything sounds nice for now, but I certainly need some more depth and width at the center position.

Thanks for all your help!
-Wendel

I'd go with the CS400 personally, it's a hell of a center and should match nicely.

B Run, thanks for the feedback, I've heard plenty of good things about the 400, but I also read that the highs were too "sharp" and the crossovers and components were "adjusted" for the 400i. I think that means the 400 would actually be a better match for the 1000ps as opposed to the 400i to the 1000is, eh?

And I notice you have a CS245, how do you like that guy?

And whats up with the websites selective and picky filter for "Recent & Vintage Models" info? I have had no luck finding info for the CS225, 275, 300 and others.

    I have a CS245 and a (I think) CS300 or 350 (can't remember). The 245 is rather small compared to the other.

At work right now and will look when I get home. I really don't need both of them..

I'm ready to part with my CS-350. It's been idle for several years now (in air conditioned comfort of course). I can't seem to find my original box though. I would be hesitant to ship without original packaging.

Yeah, that center is timbre matched to those cs1000p's and employ the same drivers and tweeters

just to let you know, the CS350 is an awesome center but it sounds a TON different from the CS400's. seriously. I was astounded by how different they sounded. it uses 4" drivers and a different tweeter and the sound will not blend with your 1000p's well. Just a heads up, but fell free to experiment.

Wallstreet, thank you for the offer, and newrival thanks for the info. I actually meant to take the CS350 off of my list after realizing it is a whopping 26in wide. I only have around 20in to work with in my current setup, so a 400 would fit perfectly.

I sent a message to someone who has a CS400 for sale, but have not heard back yet. Wish me luck!

I have a CS300 and it is a great center. I only had 18" of width and it was the best center to fit the bill.
