Wyred recently announced a new USB cable that is supposed to bring their DACs to the next performance level. I had always heard that for asynchronous DACs the USB cable choice did not make much of a difference. Thoughts?

The quality and design of the cable matters for long runs. I had an 8ft standard USB cable from Belkin that I used for an HP printer. This cable when used with my HRT MSII+ resulted in regular cutting out. I replaced the cable with a 15 foot cable from Wired World and I have absolutely zero cutting out. I'm not sure I heard an appreciable difference in sound, but then again, my PC system is not as transparent as my main rig.

This one looks interesting. And since I use this brand I can say the build quality and service is outstanding as well as the SQ.

I've been using a 9ft Virtue Audio Nirvana USB cable for my Kingwa NFB-3 DAC and another 6ft for my Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2. Both are great and way cheaper:

Even though the website showed the cables were out of stock, you can actually order some from Jason by sending him an email to cables@virtueaudio.comHe's a great guy to deal with.

I ordered one of the Wyred USB cables and received it today. It was nicely packaged in what appears to be a material similar to my wife's bloomers. It is a very sharp looking cable that provides a firm connection to both my DAC and PC.
Regarding sound quality, it's a little early to come to any conclusions, but out of the box my inital impression is favorable. It really does sound better than my Audioquest USB cable which to me sounded no different than the cheap cable that came with my DAC. Detail retrievel is better, bass is better, and in general it has a more transparent natural sounding mid range than the Audioquest. -

I really think all 1s and 0s are the same, but the something about certain digital cables really does improve the sound. I think it may have something to do with timing. Afterall, an electrical signal can be slowed by the conductors of a wire, right? Perhaps, a good digital cable doesn't affect timing. This seems to be possible when you consider that companies who makes transports and DACs design them so that there are no timing errors which create digital artifacts. -
I recall a wireworld USB ad that said, "It's not just ones and zeros, it's the timing".

Keep in mind that often parts of the usb interface are usb powered.
So a better cable helps with power loss to those devices.
After that section of the dac, local power comes into play."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson
