There was a local heroin ring busted up in town and
a number of local young people were arrested.
One was a kid that used to play with my son about
16 years ago. Very sad. WTH happened that would cause a kid
to go down the tubes like that? Last time I saw him, he was a cub
scout. Now he's looking a years of hard time. I don't get it.
It's not like he had a hard life or a bad environment. I'm sure
his parents are devastated. They ended up in different schools
after about 1st grade and I don't think they really ever saw each
in the years after that. But all I see in my mind is the kid and my
son running around with power rangers.

That really bites! Kids get caught up in stuff, you never know. Sometimes it's nothing bad really at the start and just snowballs, hopefully he'll straighten up, prison is no fun, wish him the best, pray, that's all you can do.

Just hanging with the wrong crowd can influence a child the wrong way. Add to that, parents who don't follow up on their kids behavior, social life, grades, school attendance, etc., it's bound to happen. I'm not saying ruin the kid's life by being extremely strict, but guidance along with discipline is key.

I was one of those kids that made some poor choices. It took until I was 27 to realize and get it together. Been a different life since then and all for the good. Thing is, my past still haunts me today; I still can't cross the border into the US because of my criminal record and yet I got federal and provincial clearances to work as an armed car guard. Choices can effect kids for decades. Thank God my youngest kid is nothing like me at that age (15).

Just be thankful your kid is ok.

I made my mistakes as a kid but figured out early to get away from the problem before it's to late.
