MiniMonitor

Just bought a pair of MiniMonitors off of CL. $15 for the pair. Cabinets are in decent shape and when you take grill off they look brand new. They sound pretty good (amazing for $15) and will do the job. I bought them along with a JVC rx-250 (also for $15) to handle party music on my deck.
What do we know about these. Can't find them on the Polk Product page.

It depends on which Mini Monitor they are, the ancient ones that were hug in the back of Chevy Good Times vans with the peerless and 4 inch active, 4 inch passive, or the gen II which had the same driver compliment, but a trapezoidal cabinet, or the 1990's version, which was a small two-way ported, with a mylar tweeter.

These are the later model. Not expecting any gem here but still a great speaker for $15.
Just dont see them on the Polk products page so was wondering if there was any story behind them etc. They sound good for a small bookshelf.
They are 6.5" x 6.5" x 10.5"I got static in my head

The "Ancient" ones sound interesting! I can visualize the Chevy Van with speakers hung in the back. I can almost smell the weed. (Flashback)
Yes I was a teenager in the 70's!
Listening to 8 track tapes (maybe Deep Purple?) with some Polk "Ancient" MiniMonitors in the back of a Chevy Van. Not sure it gets too much better than that.
Ok I want a pair. I want a Van. I want to go back in time!!!!I got static in my head

post some pics please. I'll try to post pics of the ancient ones I have w/ the peerless tweeter. I got mine on the bay mainly for the tweeter and the ps rad are rough and the driver's are both shot, the surrounds are gone. I would like to use mine as surrounds in the HT but I've never seen the drivers come up for sale, so for now they are heavy cabs holding a spare pair of peerless for me.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer. -

The ancient ones were known to fall apart if they sat under intense heat for long period of time....like the back window of a car. The glue used to seal the cabinets would melt and cause the panels to crumble.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I've got a pair of the same MiniMonitors(the newer ones). They're a very decent sounding little pair of speakers...they are what they are though obviously. A bit thin in the bass department. The nirvana inducer-

Really.
Honestly though, given their size...they do have "decent" bass output. The nirvana inducer-

The ones you have were decent for a bookshelf style speaker. But unless you pair them with a sub bass is not in the cards.

Seriously guys, it's the size of a loaf of bread with a single 4" active driver. I believe or hope that we can all identify that it might not have awesome bass response. Now we're talking about needing a subwoofer? Good lord. What's wrong with this place.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Did we hurt your feelings?:frown: I am just fooling around. Sheesh take a chill pill. -
I set them up on my deck Saturday and listened to some Preakness and Rapture end of the world music while I cleaned my grill. They sounded good.
However for my party this weekend I will be SUBstituting them with my Monitor 10's.
All in all nice little speakers that beat the hell out of my ipod speakers and all for $15.
