How would you change what looks to be a default setting of read only on all files back to where you can save again?

It is like the entire computer is on read only and you cant save a dang thing anywhere, is there a place on the control panel or somewhere that this setting can be altered or somewhere? Dad is getting frsutrated and we can't figure it out. All help is welcome, thank you in advance.

Computer is XP Home...

    control panel
    user accounts
    select the account
    change the account type
    select computer admin
    click change account type

    that's my best guess.

    Sounds like a permissions issue.

    Were you messing around in any of the user settings?

    Try what was suggested above. Also, did you try rebooting? Hey, if all else fails...reboot.

    Trey - If your question cannot be answered here, use:

    www.dslreports.com

    They have a Microsoft forum, and a very regular posting pattern.
    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Start->All Programs->Accessories->Windows explorer
    Right click on C: drive, select properties. Click on tools tab, under error checking click on check now. Check both boxes. Click start, ( it should give you a warning about restarting) then reboot. Depending on how large the drive is it may take a while.

    By the way, does it give you an error message if you try to save something to the harddrive?
