Help me pick a blu-ray player

So I have a Samsung BP-1600. Its started crapping out when playing DVD's and whatnot. It simply will not read DVD's, yet my Xbox 360 will. I have checked settings and all kinds of stuff and its basically got to be the blu-ray player.
So my wife told me she would look into getting me one for my birthday which is in about a month. But she doesnt know which one to get.
I am looking for something decent w/ the normal stuff (netflix, pandora) and HDMI. Looking for something probably 200 or less. SACD would be nice but not necessary.
I dont know if they have ones that will play networked music but that would rock....
So lets start the suggestions...

Try your local pawn shops. That where I bought my 2 Blu-ray players.
One was a brand new Pioneer Elite in the box for 80.00.(brand new never used..:-)..)
The other was a pretty new Sony BDP-S360 still with the box and all for I think 50.00.
We have nice shops around here and I get 99% of my DVDs and Blu-rays from them. I just bought 2 more Blu's today for 6.00 each because they know me pretty well and give me great deals all the time.
Good luckMost people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
I have a Sony BDP-S570 in the bedroom that is pretty nice for the price.Under $200.Main Rig-Realistic AM/FM Record player 8 track boasting 4 WPC

The PS3 is a great Blu-Ray player with the obvious added benefits. I stream music from all my computers via Tversity and it's awesome. All my music from both my desktop and laptop are right there in my main audio rig. I send my Vizio video from the PS3 via HDMI and use the Optical output for the audio simultaneously. It has wireless internet so you can browse the web as well. I don't think their is a better choice at around $200 bucks!
-
I am aware of the PS3 but honestly am not a huge fan. My Xbox 360 does most of what it does.
I am aware its also a blu-ray player, but its not on my list.
Are their any benefits to something like an Oppo 93, or the 83? The only differences I see between those models is that the 83 doesnt do blockbuster or netflix on demand. Anything else between those two I should be aware of?
Also since HDMI is a digital signal my Integra is still using its DAC's not the Oppos I believe. I see that the Oppo has Analog outs for stereo music and I assume its quite good for that, but is it worth going that route over one of the other brands blu-ray players, like say Samsung?
Also what about load times? My 1600 can take a bit long to load blu-rays and it honestly is a bit annoying...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Well the 93 can wirelessly network, which is a feature I use to stream video from my pcs. The 93 has very fast bluray loading. It is a very nice unit, if your willing to spend the money."They're always talking about my drinking, but never mention my thirst" Oscar Wilde

okay...I work at Best Buy part time in the HT department. (don't hold it against me please..lol) but we certainly have far more Samsung blu rays returned than any other including the Insignia. The Sony's less so, but this years Panasonic seem to be doing the best. Just a for what it's worth.

Yeah I have been somewhat happy w/ this player but this is the second time its started **** up like this. Makes me want to invest in a good player one time and call it.

Good to know. I am thinking I will just wait to get a deal on an Oppo on Audiogon, or roll around the pawn shops in town in a week or two. Anyone know whats the main diff between the 93 and 95 is? Also is the 83 that much different from the 93 minus the 3d capable part?"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." There is next gensration video processing in the 93. The 83 does not have built in wireless networking capability. Here is a link explaining differences

Enders- Do you need wireless or is a wired connection ok? I'm using a LG550 which I'm quite happy with. If I had the money I'd look into any Oppo's but other than that it might depend on the interface for netflix to help make the decision... some have a full category list while other brands sometimes only allow you to pick from what you have put into your instant que. Another BDP I would have tried if the sales had hit when I had the $ was the Panasonic BDP85. Wired is fine, the blu ray player its replacing is wired already. I try to avoid wireless at all costs.
I will take a look at the LG for sure as well."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
How about the new Panasonic DMP-BDT210. $161 shipped from Amazon and comes with a mail-in offer for a free Avatar 3D Blu-Ray disc which you could probably sell for $50-$60.

If you go the Sony route, I would suggest the BDP-S550 as that one is made in Japan (opposed to China or Malaysia). Better build quality, and you will be less likely to run into malfunctions. Unfortunately finding one new is getting harder and harder to do, but not impossible. A used one in good condition can be had for around $100.00 though.

The more I research the more it comes down to the Oppo 93 or the Panasonic DMP-BDT210.
What I really really really like about the Oppo are the parts used as well as the fact you can send video over one HDMI port and audio over the other.
This would help possibly "future proof" me if 3D goes big. I say that because all TV's at the size I want now have 3d built in and there is no getting around that. W/o the Oppo I wouldnt be able to use it fully since my AVR istn 3d capable and its honestly the last thing I am going to replace (have new AMP and TV on the list ahead of it).
The Oppo would let me keep things that way.
The things I dont like about it are the lack of online features (like Pandora specifically) the Oppo doesnt do yet. Those are in the pipeline from my understanding but who knows how long till they show up.
The other is cost, this darned thing is expensive, but I would rather buy one thing and keep it for a long time than have to keep replacing it.
The Panasonic I like because I can get it cheap compared to the Oppo. Its got quick load times, has Pandora (but apparently Netflix is hit or miss, but I dont use it currently). No idea on how good or bad the internals are.
Its only got 1 HDMI so if I want to watch 3d stuff later on I am screwed.
So for now I think I am just going to keep looking and waiting to see what happens.
I am gonna prob opt for a Harmony One remote instead of a blu-ray player for now and just keep watching DVD's on the Xbox.
I am going to try a blu-ray again to see if the issue was more with the DVD than the player, but if it doesnt work I wont cry too hard over it yet"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." What can I tell ya...I have he oppo and love it. It loads bluray at warp speed and has superb video and audio quality. Very nice build quality as well. I picked up a Panny BD-655 from Costco as an experiment to see track down an issue with audio drops on my Panny BD-80. As it turns out was something else causing the audio issues, but to my surprise the 655 produced a nicer picture than the 80.
I was going to return it, but given it's a sub $100 BD player with fast load times and a bit better picture than the 80 I'm hanging onto it. That is until I save up for an Oppo.
Just another option. -

I was getting intermittent audio dropouts on my LG BD390 and HK AVR254 combo so I decided to replace both. When the new components came (a Panasonic DMP-BDT210 and a Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH) I tried a combination of the LG BD390 with the VSX-21TXH, and also the Panasonic DMP-BDT210 with the HK AVR254 and could not duplicate the problem. The only conclusion I could come to is that some devices just don't play nice together when it comes to HDMI. LOL...Integra's blu-ray players cost as much or more than the Oppos lol...
interestingly enough the blu-ray player plays blu-rays just not DVDs....
So lets see how long that lasts lol...

another vote for the under 100 dollar lg550, have had it over a year, never a flicker of problem, never stuttered, hesitated or took more than a few seconds to get to the movie.

I was running an Onkyo 608 and swapped it for the 808 and still got audio drops. I thought the issue was resolved with the new BD player but after a few days the audio issues returned.
Managed to track it to the HDMI board in the AVR was overheating. The case above the HDMI would damn near burn me if I touched it. I installed a couple of fans above the AVR blowing air across the HDMI board and my issues went away. -

Yeah, that is something I have debated doing as well but it seems weird that its just DVD's. Blu-rays work fine w/ no issues.
You would think if it was the HDMI board it would throw up issues on DVD's and Blu-rays alike, not just one.
Hence me thinking its a decoding problem or its a HDCP handshake issue (which could also be the board going bad....again)"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." LG BD570 and BX580 (3D) both work well in my experience. They've been able to play 1080p m2ts and mkv blu-ray rips w/o no issues (wifi n and gigabit lan). And LG generally does firmware updates on a regular basis so support seems pretty good. The new BD6xx series seem to be neutered DLNA-wise.Dali Optikon 1Mk2

I think I might go buy a cheap cheap cheap little desktop fan to blow air on the HDMI board. If things suddenly start working again I will either get the HDMI board re-capped again and then install this, or possibly ask for to suitable replacement as this would be the second time I have had it happen on this reciever.
I have some spare computer fans but not sure what parts I would need to get them to run off regular power. If I could do that I could make my own and have it be on only when the reciever is on since I have a switched outlet on the back."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted."
