I know the classic rock stations wear the same songs out, one of them being Sweet Home Alabama, but why did Johnnie Van Zant give up the rights to that song, to KFC now every time you hear that song when Billy Powell on the piano goes da da da da da dum I get a craving for a bucket of extra crispy. I bet Ol Ronnie Van Zant the Real lead Singer would not of pimped his music to anyone. (R.I.P.) Ronnie

I saw John Mellencamp in his heyday (late 80's).
He sang Bob Dylan's LIke A Rolling Stone.
Before he sang it he went in to this long story about how he hates commerialization of the music he grew up with.
All the songs he loved being used to sell products.
Then ..a few years later he is doing thew same thing..the Chevy commercial being the most flagrant.

Well, after their last album in the early 80s (not counting Endless Wire... how many farewell tours have the Who (now just Daltrey and Townshend) done?

    speaking of 'selling out' :-(

Unlike the Stones and remaining Beatles...........the Who are broke, at least that's what I've read. Townsend is a class A A'hole BTW.

Meh, who cares about "selling out?" A band wants to make some money off their songs, they should, it's their damn song.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I've discovered some pretty good acts from them "selling out".

    Royksopp
    The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
    Dirty Vegas
    Telepopmusik
    Parson Redheads
    Shiny Toy Guns
    Sia
    The Wiseguys
    Nick Drake
    Landon Pigg

There's so many other bands I found by just seeing a commercial and thinking "I wonder who that is?" The I end up with a new album. If they hadn't "sold out" I never would have found them.

Selling out is just something that losers who can't get anyone to buy their crap say to justify the fact that nobody likes their "art". The other thing they say is that nobody "gets" them. Uhhh...yeah, they do and they think you suck.

Listen to music that you enjoy. If it's mainstream or obscure, listen and enjoy. (Hopefully, it's mastered in a tolerable way.)

It kills me that Bob Seger made money TWICE off the groaning/shouting he calls singing. Like a rock indeed.

He got his. 1973, Felt Forum, Madison Square Garden. He ALMOST warmed up for Zappa. Except he was such a pretentious, hair flinging, move making, no-talent, that him and his band were booed off the stage after one song. Might not have been a whole song either. Thankfully, he was a no-show for the next night. Mitch Ryder wannabe.
