Goals Mountain biking

I contemplated doing a tune up on the bike and upgrade a couple components but now I'm into the price of a new bike with a much better frame that will actually fit me. The bike looks like it was about a '94 which feels older than I thought. I have the color scheme as below with some minor upgrades.
Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.
Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -
I am highly considering a Gary Fisher Tarpon or the Specialized Hardrock. I like the idea of the GF as the shop takes in trade ins and I could probably get a couple bucks out of the Schwinn mentioned above. Otherwise, I like the lifetime tune ups on the Specialized through that LBS. So if I go Specialized, I'm looking at the standard Hardrock at $420 or the Sport Disc for $599. Looking at the specs below, is it work the extra bucks now or should I go cheap and then upgrade the parts later?

If you can afford it do it now. You couldn't do those upgrades for the difference in price. Were talking front and rear bearings and disc brake kit for $180.00. No way.

but for that $180, will it keep me from upgrading next season?Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

I'm gonna be looking to get a new mountain bike this year myself. I'm probably going to be looking somewhere in the $500 range...I could maybe push it to $6-700 if it's really worth the extra.
So far, I'm mainly considering the Trek 3700 or 3900, and also the 4300. I've always loved Treks. I've also looked at the Raleigh Talus 4.0 and 5.0 and 8.0, and the GT Avalanche 2.0 and 1.0.
What other brands/models should I be looking at in the range? Front suspension and a hardtail is a must. I'm not a fan of rear suspension...it robs too much of your power. Aluminum frame is a must...disc brakes are basically a must. The nirvana inducer-

How about the Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc and the Specialized Rockhopper?
Upon some further research, I think I'm going to be solidly in the $700 range to get what I want. So far, I'm mainly looking at the Trek 4300 Disc, the Releigh Talus 8.0 and both the Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc and the Specialized Rockhopper
I'm really leaning toward the Trek...The nirvana inducer-

Out of the Four your looking at above. I think the Trek is the best.
PS. One thing I never like on moutain bikes is resin pedals. What the heck is that. They always feel flimsy to me and I can feel them torque under pressure. Almost all of the bikes I ever had including the Impact have had Bear Trap pedals. -
Anyone have any thoughts on the Giant Rincon? One of my buddies has one that he's considering selling...not sure on pricing yet, but I could probably get a pretty good deal on it. I'm not sure what year it is...probably a few years old though. The nirvana inducer-

Any thoughts?
Also, can anyone steer me towards a good mountain biking forum? I've been perusing singletrack.com for the last few days...I joined up, but haven't posted yet.The nirvana inducer-
