The reason I ask is because they have this also

They call the first one a radio2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. The first one is sold by amazon, the second one is sold by a third party in the marketplace called tripplenet pricing, according to the ad details. its the same item, howeverdesign is where science and art break even.

If you look at the photos, it looks like you are getting just the controller, not the player.

Except the item description describes the player and there is a photo of both.
Amazon just has a better deal than the third party seller. I say go for it, because having the remote with the screen is a nice bonus.

With the available phone apps, my duet controller sits virtually unused.

That's true, but if the deal is almost as good as Touch or III, then it seems it's the better value.

The first link is for the receiver and controller, and I second buying it straight through Amazon. $200 shipped is a pretty good deal.
We got one a couple months ago to hook up to the outdoor speakers and system in the living room. No critical listening duty, bought it strictly for the convenience of the remote with display (my cell is rotary dial, there's no app for that...) and the access to the music I've already burned to a hard drive.
Some times it's tough to beat sitting under the covered porch in a rain storm, drinking a beer and scrolling through your entire digital library.Wristwatch--->Crisco -
Ben, Sometimes hard to beat, sounds like it would be hard to beat, period! I any buying the rechargeable battery pack for my Squeeze radio so I can use it on my deck or out in the garage or in the basement workshop. Access to internet radio and my entire song library. Love it!
It's been said by many owners and reviewers the dac portion of the Touch is better than the Duet or Classic versions. I don't know because I use an external dac.
So one thing to consider Dragon, if you are using it strictly on it's own perhaps the Touch is the better buy. If you plan on using an external dac, any of them would be an excellent choice.

If you compare the Touch and Duet, it says the Touch has "audiophile acoustics". I'm assuming if you're plugging them into an external DAC it's a mute point?2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. Hmmm, I wouldn't rush to the judgement that the Duet is as good as the Touch if you're using external DACs, at a minimum I'd say more research would be in order to make that decision.
I did not have the Duet, but the Touch was a clear winner over the Classic when using the built in DAC and I'd expect that to hold true over the Duet as well, but that much has already been said.
I would not, however, assume the the Duet and Touch are otherwise identical. There are other things that affect the sound as well, mainly the power supply and all the components in the digital path. With the Touch you're going to have a better selection of aftermarket upgrade power supplies, that alone is worth getting the Touch over the Duet IMO, as the power supply makes a huge difference, I would go so far as to call it night and day.
There's also the question of the components in the digital path. I have no idea what the Touch uses, or the Duet for that matter. hell for all I know the Duet could be better! The point is, there's more there to look at. Bolder has an upgrade for the touch for both the DAC section AND the digital path, so clearly there's room to improve on either device.
If you're using this on the patio none of this really matters. Alot of people though just assume these things are only appropriate in a casual listening situation, and I couldn't disagree with that more. With some extra tweaks (especially the power supply and maybe one of the mods from Bolder) this thing can be the source in a high end music system and hold it's own against CD players costing 3 times as much as it, AND you get the benefit of having all your music at your fingertips.
I really can't say enough about how well this thing performs, and if it were my money (and it was a month or so ago) I'd spend the extra $100 and get the Touch and have a device that's more 'upgrade friendly'
My $.02 -
I thought somebody determined they can use the same PS, but I could be mistaken.

No, the Touch and the Classic all use the same PS, the Duet uses a different voltage. I believe there is still an upgraded PS for the Duet, but the selection is bigger for the Touch and the Classic.

Got it - thanks! Makes sense, since the power requirements are probably different du to the lack of any display. -
OK...got a good deal so I went with the Touch! Also ordered a Verbatim 1 TB external USB drive (model 96571). This should be cool. I can use it in my computer/2-channel music room connected to my Cambridge Audio 840C's DAC or in the great room hooked up to the Pioneer Elite when I'm on the treadmill.2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables.
