How to setup Monitor 40's as satellites

I'm looking to get and set up some monitor 40's to round out my monitor 70s and CS2. My main concern is they are kind of big to try to wall mount, so do they have a standard stand or one that fits them? Or what is a good way to get these to ear level? Thanks

Check my System Showcase (link in my signature) for how they look mounted.

I recently replaced them with Primus 162's, but the Monitor 40's worked great with those mounts.

Also rather than drilling into the vener, I used velcro on the bottom to keep it from tipping forward (others have done this as well w/ the LSi 7's and 9's)

Do they really need to be that high? I thought they just needed to be at ear level, and if I'm on the couch thats only like 3-4 feet off the ground. Maybe I'm mixing my terms for rear and surround. Also I'm looking for a cheap and easy solution, the AM40's look great but I'm in an apartment so the less I go into the walls the better and the 2 wall mounts would practically cost as much as the speakers lol. I was thinking somehting like a tripod stand or something, but in this case it might just be easier to get some cheap walmart bookcase. Unless it is supposed to be really high then wall mounting might be my best choice. Thanks again for the input

PS the M40s are the right choice to go with the 70s and CS2 over the 30s right? Thanks

They dont need to be that high, I just put them that high for my own purposes (didnt want folks walking into them.

Most folks ideally recommend ~ 1ft or more higher than the listeners seated ear level. But ideally doesnt always work as this isnt a perfect world lol.

You want your surrounds to provide non directional diffuse sounds hence mounting above ear level.

Honestly I would go w/ the 30's. Keyhole mount built right in so no need for brackets at all. Much easier to mount due to smaller size as well.

Unless you listen to lots of multichannel music in which case you might notice the difference between the 30's and 40's.

I mostly will be using it for TV, movies and video games, mostly games. And I've looked at them a bit and it seems like having 2 comparable drivers vs just one would be relatively significant. Again still new at this, so you're saying the only real difference would come through on multichannel music?

    Basically.

Most of your dialog (lets say 90%) is gonna come from your center. Most of your special effects (lets say 75%) are gonna come from your left/right.

Your surrounds are what will play the crickets chirping behind you in a field, quick bullets whizzing by, ect.

They dont recieve nearly the amount of sound your front 3 do. So buying the Monitor 30's are the better choice.

Does that mean you cant buy and enjoy the 40's, nope, but I wouldnt do it again if I had it to do all over.

Also something to keep in mind. If your looking at the 40's, make sure the cost of the 40's + stands isnt more than just buying 2 Monitor 50's. They are the same speaker, the 50's are just floorstanding models so they dig a bit deeper, but thats about it.

Sounds good. I think I'm sold on the 30's, so would you say wall mount like ~5 feet up for couch viewing? And then not for now but down the road, which i say all too frequently since getting my new tv, then speakers, then more speakers... Whats a good sub for this setup? I've heard the Polk PSW 505, but apparently they stopped making it. Amazon and new egg had it on a notify when available status but now they just say out of stock. So what is a good hopefully like ~$300 range sub, I can go higher if its worth it but thats my target price. Thanks again for all the info

Yeah thats good. Keep in mind with them being keyhole mount you can play with the height as you go as its pretty easy to move a nail

Honestly I liked the 505 and Polks MicroPro or Pro sub line. Anything else isnt worth it IMHO.

I have the PSW125 and its being replaced as soon as I can afford to, however I am dropping about 3 or 4 times your budget on a sub as I am looking at the SVS PC-12+ (~1200) or the SVS PC-12 NSD (~700).

I would take a look at the Emotiva sealed sub offerings. They are quite good from what I have read and should be in your budget or right above it.

    Another is the HSU STF-2 & STF-1

Those subs? Its because they are manufacture direct only, so no Amazon, Best Buy, ect.

Head over to AVSFORUM and do a search on any of them and you will see hundreds of threads and happy customers for each .

I know I would be happy with one or two of those in my house.....

But I just got some other parts I am searching out before I go sub hunting....

I havent got my speakers in yet, will be a few more days but i went with the 30's myself for the surrounds as the 40's are just to big.

    This is what i orderd
Polk Audio CS2 Series II Center Channel Speaker (Black) x1
Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Black) Each x2
Polk Audio Monitor30 Series II Two-Way Bookshelf Loudspeaker (Black) x4
and im keeping my 400watt 15" Cerwin vega sub as its pretty good still but im thinking about buying two PSW505 12"

anyway here is some pics of my current setup and the speakers im replacing, as u can see my sides are on stands and my rears are mounted high up on the wall

    frostmourn.jpg

There is no way to mount 40's to this stand they are 12" deep and would fall over, the 30's are only slighty more deep then the speakers i have now
