Wonder why the 2011 stereo Guthrie mix of WYWH is not included in 2496?

Well, it will be some time before we see The Wall Immersion Set (2012) so its impossible to say for sure what will or will not be included, but no I don't believe it will include on SACD.

As you probably know, the WYWH SACD has been rumored in Floyd circles pretty much since the 30th Anniversary DSOTM SACD was released, or at least for the last 5 years or so with conflicting rumors always swirling. In fact, its been mixed/mastered for about a year but kept under tight wraps. As noted above, it will be distributed by Acoustic Sounds and not included in the WYWH Immersion or Experience sets. So its not a part of these but will be purposely released in conjunction with them.

As for The Wall, I've never heard of rumors of an impending SACD. Always a possibility but I'd say there is a slim to none chance it will actually appear in one of these boxes. If the WYWH SACD sells particularly well, however, that could possibly spur them to give the same treatment to The Wall.

I forgot to mention one very important bit of information. During the messy legislation of the 1980s, Gilmour-Mason-Wright gained the right to use the name "Pink Floyd" going forward despite Waters' absence, however, in exchange Waters gained full control over The Wall and The Final Cut. Thus, unlike the other albums in question, everything to do with The Wall has to be cleared with Roger first.

Many have been complaining that the proposed contents on The Wall Immersion set pales in comparions to the contents for the other two Immersion sets announced thus far, and thus some have speculated that Roger is holding back on some material for other future releases. Given the fact that Roger is/has been touring The Wall in 2010 and 2011 and has stated on several occasions how there will be a release of some 1980/81 concert on Blu-Ray (I believe) -- this is not included in the proposed The Wall Immersion Set -- there is a very good chance that he will be putting together other Wall packages (CD, DVD, Blu-ray) independent of these and thus still the possibility of an SACD. That said, I haven't heard with any more specificity what exactly he proposes. I imagine it will become clearer after he finishes his current tour. Just something to keep in mind...

Well, there is the 2011 remaster of Animals (the Discovery version) that will be released in late Sept. The 1994 remaster was done by Doug Sax; this one will be remastered by his protege, James Guthrie. (Guthrie, I believe, is responsible for mixing/mastering the 30th Anniversary 2003 DSOTM hybrid-SACD as well as the 40th Anniversary Piper triple-disc set).

I think the idea is to go with the big three (in commercial terms) first: DSOTM, WYWH, and The Wall. If these sell well, then we might get additional Immersion Sets (and hopefully 2-3 disc Discovery sets for each) in the future.

Yes, Animals along with Meddle and Atom Heart Mother would be my top choices for a potential next round of Immersion sets. Animals would sound great in 5.1, don't you think?

Also, there's a tremendous amount of top quality unreleased material from 1969-71 including professionally shot video footage with great long versions of "Fat Old Sun" and "The Embryo."

And yes I thought it was great that this announcement came 34 years, to the day, after the finest "unofficial" Floyd live performance, IMO: May 9, 1977 in Oakland. Of the several dozen versions of "Money" I've heard, for example, nothing comes close to this one and none is quite like it. Love the guitar work on it. Money - May 9, 1977, Oakland Coliseum

maybe that's the idea...the surviving band members are nearing 70...they probably realize that in order to preserve their legacy after they go, they should release and update alot of stuff fans have been asking for for years..

they sure as hell don't need the money...pink floyd, itself probably won't ever die..these releases just stoke the fire. i can never get enough..now that the bootlegs are being re-engineered...

I'm loving the fact that I just sold my "old" box set ("Oh By The Way") on Amazon for $100. That thing will be worthless as soon as the new one comes out. Nice mini-lp packaging, but I'm sure the new one will be nicer....
