saw her friday night. small place. maybe 200 people. quite the performer. funny. sassy. and extremely confident. she will be called queen of the blues someday..that's my prediction. her pipes upstaged 2 guitarists, all night. she even sang without a mike at times and was the loudest instrument on stage.

if you dig blues, seek her out:cool:

    you are right she is great, but i am biased as i play bass in her band!
    btw her name is spelled Shemikia :-)

    that was you, friday at the bamboo room in lake worth? if so, you were great as well! the 2 guitarists are a fine match..lotsa subtle tones..i found myself hearing horns and even looking for a B3! i was sober, too:cool:

    nice place, nice folks, really enjoyed it.
    We headed over to Clearwater for a festival on saturday.
    played with Taj mahal, a nice weekend all in all.

    Looks like she is gonna be at SMAC (the Stone Mountain Arts Center) in Maine soon. I have not heard her at all; but I've read and heard good things about her.

    Not to change the subject :-P but SMAC is just an unbelievable little place - imagine a small (150 seat) venue tucked into the woods not too far from the NH border that features acts like Joan Baez and Richard Thompson. No affiliation; just a fan of the place and of the concept.

    I listen to shemikia all the time, the late great Johnny Copeland her father was an excellent player the cd Showdown featuring Johnny Copeland, Albert Collins and Robert Cray is a must listen along with all of Shemikia's cds, I wish she would come to our annual Blues Fest sometime soon.
